Docker container crashing ubuntu host

  • 9

Very unexpected, but briefly if i run a docker container host becomes unresponsive, no in/out, can't ping it, only hard reboot works.

DMESG, sys and kernel logs doesn't show anything obvious

Heuristic diagnosis tells me it crashes when my client terminal kicking docker hibernates...

It's very fuzzy, but maybe someone experienced something similar?

host spec:

Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU Z3735F @ 1.33GHz

ubuntu version

~$ uname -a
Linux raccoon 3.16.0-30-generic #40~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 15 17:43:14 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

docker -v

Docker version 1.9.1, build a34a1d5

Why is response time exploding when request frequency drops?

  • 22

Correction: response time (%D) is μs not ms! 1

This doesn't change anything about the weirdness of this pattern but it means that it is practically way less devastating.

Why is response time inversely correlated to request frequency?

Shouldn't the server respond faster when it is less busy handling requests?

Any suggestion how to make Apache "take advantage" of less load?

enter image description here

This pattern is periodic. That means it will show up if impressions drop below about 200 requests per minute - which happens (due to natural user-activity) from late night to early morning.

The requests are very simple POSTs sending a JSON of less than 1000 characters - this JSON is stored (appended to a text file) - that's it. The reply is just "-".

The data shown in the graphs was logged with Apache itself:

LogFormat "%{%Y-%m-%d+%H:%M:%S}t %k %D %I %O" performance
CustomLog "/var/log/apache2/performance.log" performance

error when running apt-get update on ubuntu 14

  • 14

I am running ubuntu 14 on one of my servers.

When I run sudo apt-get update, I get the error below.

W: GPG error: http://cran.rstudio.com trusty/ Release: The following signatures were invalid: KEYEXPIRED 1445181253 KEYEXPIRED 1445181253 KEYEXPIRED 1445181253

Should I modify my ppa repository list or take some other action to fix this issue.

Update: I tried removing R from the server using

sudo apt-get --purge remove r-base
sudo apt-get --purge remove r-base-core
sudo apt-get --purge remove r-base-recommended

However, I am still seeing the same issue with apt-get update.

UnicodeDecodeError in Ubuntu while installing PHP5.6 from PPA

  • 11

I have a clean VPS, with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x64. And Tried the following:

# Upgrade The Base Packages

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade -y

# Add A Few PPAs To Stay Current

apt-get install -y software-properties-common

apt-add-repository ppa:nginx/stable -y
apt-add-repository ppa:rwky/redis -y
apt-add-repository ppa:chris-lea/node.js -y
apt-add-repository ppa:ondrej/php5-5.6 -y

But then it fails at the last one:

root@xxx:~# apt-add-repository ppa:ondrej/php5-5.6 -y

I couldn't figure out whats wrong. It's all pretty basic.
