MySQL not working after installing git

I use Ubuntu 16.04 and everything was fine until I installed git on the server. Now apparently MySQL is stopped and it doesn't start.

Here is the result of mysql -V:

mysql  Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.7.20, for Linux (x86_64) using  EditLine wrapper

And here is the result of sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start:

An here is the result of mysql -u root -p<myPassword>

Any idea how can I fix the problem?

  1. It looks like the user which you used to start mysql does not have enough permission to write to file systems. Porcess was unable to write to : /var/log/mysql/error.log

    Ensure that you have write permission
