When rebooting (18.04), my screen stayed black until the actual login appeared.
It seems that the:
GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480
line in /etc/default/grub
had reverted back to being a commented-out line.
The file was dated August 4 at 8:11:32, which according to /varlog/dpkg/log
is when a software update occurred:

It doesn't make sense that an update would overwrite this file, which is intended to contain locally edited configuration.
Was that a one time mistake, or is there something I'm supposed to do to prevent this from happening again, or what?
