Last week I formatted my PC to install Kubuntu 20.10 on my new NVMe disk (I also formatted my EFI partition). Before that, I had Ubuntu 20.10 installed on my other SSD drive. The problem is that after the Kubuntu installation, I can no longer boot into Ubuntu anymore. Kubuntu (on the NVMe drive) boots as expected, however Ubuntu (on the other disk) does not boot, although it is listed by Grub when I turn on the PC.
Here is the summarized output of sudo fdisk -l
:
Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/nvme0n1p1 2048 999423 997376 487M EFI System
/dev/nvme0n1p2 999424 976771071 975771648 465,3G Linux filesystem
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sdb1 2048 1172260863 1172258816 559G 83 Linux
/dev/sdb2 1172260864 1875384319 703123456 335,3G 83 Linux
So in short, /dev/nvme0n1p1
is where the EFI partition is located. I already mounted it and it has two folders: EFI/BOOT and EFI/ubuntu (I guess this is actually used by Kubuntu).
The partition /dev/nvme0n1p2
is where Kubuntu is installed (all is fine here). The partition /dev/sdb1
is where Ubuntu 20.10 is installed and the partition /dev/sdb2
is used to store backups.
From what I read in other questions posted by users, when I formatted the EFI partition, I lost the information needed to boot Ubuntu 20.10 again. However, I do not know how to fix this issue. Can anyone help me with this problem?
