I am trying to upgrade my nodejs to 7.6 but failed. Now I have a new problem after re-installing node 6.10:
$ sudo apt-get purge nodejs npm
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package 'npm' is not installed, so not removed
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
linux-headers-4.8.0-40 linux-headers-4.8.0-40-generic linux-image-4.8.0-40-generic linux-image-extra-4.8.0-40-generic
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED
nodejs*
0 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 1 to remove and 53 not to upgrade.
After this operation, 51.7 MB disk space will be freed.

Why does it say Package 'npm' is not installed, so not removed
? i have been using npm to install many node packages for my projects!!
I ignore the error and went on installing node 7.6:
$ curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_7.6 | sudo -E bash -
bash: line 1: html: No such file or directory
bash: line 2: syntax error near unexpected token `<'
'ash: line 2: `<head><title>404 Not Found</title></head>
So I fell back to node 6.x. But I cannot install npm anymore:
$ sudo apt-get install npm
