Questions[amd-processor](ubuntu)

I am very new to linux. On my laptop I have a multiboot with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04 on the same disk.

The problem is when I suspend to RAM and then wake it up by pressing the power button, the disk starts running, however the screen remains black. I tried logging in blind (the screen was still black and I tried using the keyboard), opening terminal and typing reboot and that works.

Looking for solution, I found this thread. One of the solutions were to sudoedit /etc/default/grub and add nouveau.modeset=0 to the line that says GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX. Apparently it's an nvidia driver bug. Except I have AMD CPU with Radeon graphics, so this isn't my case, right?

Another solution was installing xscreensaver, which I already had installed. I also checked the possibility of having the swap partition encrypted which also wasn't the case.

Is it some problem with AMD drivers? Can you please help me find a solution?

My hardware is HP Probook 455 G7 with AMD Ryzen 3 4300U, AMD Radeon Graphics and 16 GB RAM. I am running 64bit Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, GNOME 3.36.3 and kernel 5.4.0-47

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 18.04 (18.04.1 will try tomorrow) onto Acer Aspire A315-41-R8XR. I have unpacked iso file to my flash and booted to grub successfully, but when I select "Try Ubuntu", I just get black screen and that's all. I have also tried to select "Install Ubuntu", but I get many errors:

Windows 8.1 works fine, although it was already on the disk from another notebook, so, I think, it is not a power supply problem.

I've seen many such posts in the internet. It seems that people lost Ubuntu on Ryzen with Vega...

How to fix? May be use newer kernel? How to do it?

I am currently running Ubuntu 16.04 on a machine with an AMD A8-5600K APU and a Radeon R9 270X. The amdgpu driver does not yet support my card and therefore I cannot use OpenCL on my GPU. However, I see no reason why OpenCL applications can't use my CPU.

I've installed every package I can think of - ocl-icd-libopencl1 , ocl-icd-opencl-dev , etc.

I've written a simple application that enumerates available OpenCL platforms and it fails on the clGetPlatformIDs() call. What am I missing?

Edit: I installed the AMD APP SDK as recommended in SE6's answer but no platforms were showing up yet. Running strace revealed that the OpenCL ICD loader couldn't find libamdocl64.so.

Further edit: success! I was able to get it working using the following command:

sudo ln -s '/opt/AMDAPPSDK-3.0/lib/x86_64/sdk/libamdocl64.so' \
    /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libamdocl64.so

(Replace /opt with the path you installed the AMD APP SDK to.)

I've got an older laptop that I use as a media center on my TV and I'm usually installing/reinstalling/uninstalling different OS' and Apps to get it to run as smoothly as possible.

One thing I noticed was very strange. My laptop is a HP Pavilion G62 which has a triple core AMD processor running at 1800mhz. When I launch XBMC from in Windows 7 and look at the processor speeds, it clearly says 1800mhz. However, when I launch it from Ubuntu either from the launcher or as a session, it says the processor is only 800mhz.

I wanted to investigate further so I loaded up DXDIAG in Windows to see what the speed was. Sure enough, it indicates that it's 1800mhz. However, when launching HardInfo in Ubuntu, it tells me that the speed of each core is as follows: 1500mhz, 1500mhz, and 800mhz.

Does this mean that both the advertised processor speed and the speed detected by Windows are lying or rounded off? Or is there a problem with Ubuntu detecting my processor speeds and my system isn't running as optimally as it should? I'd be inclined to say the latter... mainly because it appears that Windows runs far smoother than Ubuntu does.

I am running on a dual core AMD E450 CPU. When I tried to run a 64-bit OS that requires hardware virtualization using VirtualBox, it showed me an error message that "AMD-V is not enabled".

My AMD processor is supposed provide AMD-V support, but I can find no option for enabling AMD-V in BIOS.

How can I solve this problem? How can I enable AMD-V for my CPU?
