I hoping that someone here can advise a work-around for this bug I'm experiencing in autokey-gtk.

When I use a dark theme, the phrase editor is missing its typing cursor.

I see no settings to adjust this and would appreciate any advice that would lead to me to being able to use Autokey-gtk with a dark theme, while also having a visible typing cursor.

I am relatively new to Linux/Ubuntu (so please take it easy on me) and I am trying to install Autokey to use the text expansion functionality. I have tried installing it from the instructions on the Github page here - https://github.com/autokey/autokey#installation

However, no matter whether I follow the installation process under the Ubuntu/Mint/Debian section or the instructions to install via pip I cannot seem to get the program working.

The installation seems to be successful (running a 'which' command gives the path installed) but clicking on the icon does not launch the program.

I have also tried to install directly from Ubuntu/GNOME software manager but that also will not launch the program once installed.

I have tried installing both the GTK and QT frontends and neither will launch. I don't get an error message or anything. I have opened up the System Monitor to see if a process even appears (however briefly) and there's nothing.

Typing autokey-gtk into Terminal gives:

I bought a USB numberpad with the idea of programming some Autokey macros onto it.

Using xev, however, I see that the system does not recognize any difference between its keys and those on my main board.

Is there any way of assigning separate keys to the numberic USB board so that I can assign macros there? If so, which programs do I need (xmodmap, etc)?

Could hardware such as this work (they all seem to be Windows-only)

I want to send alt+f7 keys from autokey. Following are the code samples which I tried:

  • keyboard.send_keys("<alt>+<f7>")

  • keyboard.send_key("<alt>+<f7>")

  • keyboard.fake_keypress("<alt>+<f7>")

I tried with repeat=1 also. It doesn't seem to work. Can anyone tell me how to make this work?
