Questions[drm](ubuntu)

I've just set up a laptop with brand new Ubuntu 20.04 and visited Netflix in Firefox.

There was a yellow toaster underneath the address bar stating

You must enable DRM to play some audio or video on this page

So I clicked 'Enable DRM'. Then I saw "Firefox is installing components... please try again later" and after that went away I reloaded Netflix but it still would not play. When I play back video I get Netflix error F7355.

Then it points me to https://help.netflix.com where I can only find information on this error when I have trouble playing back on macOS or Windows. But I don't use those, I use Linux...

I understand that I can probably install Chrome which will Just Work - but I don't use Chrome. It seems like it could work but I'm missing something. What should I do to watch Netflix in Firefox on Linux on Ubuntu 20.04?

I am running Ubuntu 19.10 as the only OS on my laptop. Up until recently, that is a few days ago, I regularly watched ITVHub in the Chrome browser on my laptop.

Yesterday I tried to watch a programme only to get the warning that I needed to enable "Protected Content" in Chrome or "Digital Right Management (DRM) Content" in Firefox. I tried to stream the programme in Firefox but got the same warning. I checked and the options were enabled in the Chrome and Firefox browsers. I can stream the BBC iPlayer and All4, two other UK streaming sites without any problem.

I then tried streaming ITVHub using Chrome in my Android tablet and it worked perfectly.

I regularly update my Ubuntu OS and there was an update prior to this problem occuring. Because Chrome can stream ITVHub on my Android tablet but not on my Ubuntu laptop I suspect the problem may be an OS problem.

I have all of the ubuntu-restricted-extras etc installed and the ITVHub was working on my 19.10 OS until very recently.

Any ideas of what may be causing this?

I use Ubuntu 19.10 for 2 weeks now and I like it so far except that I have one little problem: The per-installed Firefox does not allow me to play DRM content media (and possible other media too).

i.e.

• I cant play Spotify in Firefox. It gives me a DRM error.
• Some youtube videos won't play giving me this error: screenshot YouTube
• I also try to watch recorded lectures from my university but there too I get an error... I dont think the university uses DRM content screenshot videoplayer

Widevine by google and OpenH264 are both installed and DRM content is enabled in settings.

So I suspect it has to do with HTML5 video, anyone knows a fix?

I have recently installed a VM and Ubuntu, once I finished installing Ybuntu I had the following message

drm:vmn_host_log [vmugfx] ERROR Failed to send log

I´m no programmer and my knowledge is honestly very limited on this, does anyone know how can I solve this?

I'd like to know how I can strip DRM from a Kindle book. I would like to buy a Kindle ebook from Amazon. I'd strip the DRM, and convert it to Epub (so I can listen to it on a headset connected to my iPhone) and to PDF format (so, while listening, I can follow the story in a PDF reader (Okular) using my Ubuntu based distro, and annotate the book).

I have spent an hour searching for software for stripping the DRM but only found links to pages of which the content didn't seem helpful, or which I didn't trust.
