I am experiencing a mouse cursor flickering on my primary display when I enable fractional scaling. I am running Ubuntu 20.04 desktop on a Dell Inspiron XPS 9380 with Intel UHD620 graphics.

I have a dual monitor set-up and, as such, I have 200% scaling on my primary screen (13 inches up to 4k) and 100% scaling on my second monitor which sits above and extends the desktop ('join displays'). To achieve this configuration, I enabled fractional scaling in the screen display tab of the settings GUI.

The scaling is just how I want it to be, but, the cursor flickers very rapidly and erratically on the primary display only. It is unpleasant to look at and very distracting when using any program. The click function works fine, and the cursor tracks perfectly smoothly despite the flickering.

I have been unable to achieve the same display configuration by using 'xrandr' in the command line, so ideally I will continue to use the fractional scaling setting available in the GUI.

I have installed ubuntu 20.04 on my laptop specification are intel i3 6th gen with intel graphics card 520,screen resolution 1366×768. when i lock desktop to temporarily turn off the screen but when i press power button to wakeup the screen my screen flickers continuously, this issue occurs only when locking the desktop or when screen goes off automatically. I had same issue with ubuntu 18.04 version and kali linux. But when i downgrade ubuntu to 16.04 it was running fine and same with kali linux when i installed slightly older version of kali linux it was also running fine. I am having this issue with only newer versions of ubuntu and kali linux. I have tried solution of 1)reducing screen size 2)installing older kernels

And also when i installed ubuntu 20.04 on my friends laptop it was also running fine in his laptop, specs are i5 8th gen nvidia graphics card,screen resolution 1920×1080

Ever had a time when it seemed that part of your screen couldn't figure out quite what it wanted to display? If so, you'll probably be able to help me out on this question.

I have an HP Elitebook 850 laptop running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (64-bit), and the HP docking station, which provides another VGA output port. For a while, I used a Dell 2007FPb (1280x1024) monitor on that port (in the portrait configuration) with no Ubuntu issues (though the monitor itself had some major issues, causing it to frequently restart itself). Today, I replaced that monitor with an Acer AL2216W (1680x1050), ALSO in the portrait configuration (using this for reading music, etc.) It seems to me that the issue has to do with the taller screen (1680 vs 1280 pixels high) and Ubuntu memory allocation.

So we have:

• HP Elitebook 850 G2 with Intel® HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2), 8GB RAM installed
• Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (64-bit)
• Main Monitor: (built-in screen) 1920 x 1080 (landscape)
• Secondary monitor: Acer AL2216W @ 1050 x 1680 (portrait)

The problem: the bottom portion of the second screen (in portrait mode) constantly "flickers" randomly between what should be displayed, and something that used to be displayed. (After a random period of minutes, this mysterious "second buffer" eventually matches the screen...until I change it again.) I've tried moving the second monitor's configured location (in Displays) all around, but only succeeding in moving the location of the problem area on the second screen. This is not a hardware problem, as it shows up in screenshots: here's a screenshot of the problem:

Note that the affected area starts 1,138 pixels down from the top of the 2nd screen (only 58 pixels below the 1,080-pixel main screen). Not sure if that means anything or not.

How did I get the above screenshot? Well, when I press the "screenshot" button, Ubuntu quickly "fades" both screens from black back to normal, and one of the "faded" steps starts flickering randomly on the lower portion of the second screen (main screen is fine). Here a few minutes later, it's still flickering that "faded" step; if I scroll the document on the second screen, it'll start flickering back and forth between what used to be displayed there and the new material. Which poses quite a problem for the music I'm trying to read on that monitor!

It doesn't make any difference what program I use (in other words, it's not the Document Viewer at fault here)...if I "restore" the window to a smaller size, the affected area keeps flashing between what it should display and what it used to be displaying. It constantly flickers back and forth between the two, just like a bad connection in a wire (which it isn't if I can use screen capture to get a picture of it!)

I have not installed any drivers or other video software--these are plug-and-play Ubuntu 16.04 drivers. Any suggestions?

I had an issue with my external HD monitor which started flickering and the rows of pixels were unaligned with each other a bit so the picture was kind of blurry. I tried everything from changing some settings to a different kernel and nothing worked.

As mentioned in the title. Was upgrading from 17.10. Having this screen flickering.

My GPU is AMD RX480

What I did:

• Search for similar issues for 18.04, can't find any
• Perform fresh install. Still the same.

Please help. It is very annoying. I can't work.
