I need to merge about a 100 PDF files into one where each file uses more or less the same unsubsetted fonts. All the options I have tried so far (pdfunite, gs, etc.) are not intelligent about font duplication and the merged PDF ends up with a 100 copies of the same font and is therefore much larger than it needs to be.

Is there a way to do any one of the following:

1. Merge the PDFs without duplicating fonts?
2. De-duplicate the fonts in the PDF later?
3. Remove fonts from the PDF entirely?

The ideal solution will have a commercial friendly open source license (eg. not APGL).

After upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04, CUPS would no longer print PDFs. I checked /var/log/cups/error.log and discovered these error messages:

I thought it may be a problem with symlinks, and while troubleshooting ghostscript I tried reinstalling the libgs9-common package

Now I can print again, but all the colors are inverted. Any idea what's wrong?

I have recently installed Ubuntu 18.04 (Not upgrade, a clean install). In Ubuntu 18.04, the rendering LaTeX function in Inkscape is not working. Following is the error output:

From the google search, what I have found that the problem is arising because of the ghostscript. The Render>LaTeX extension actually calls pstoedit which in terns calls ghostscript using DELAYBIND flag to convert from LaTeX to SVG. But in the newer version of ghostscript the flag DELAYBIND has been deprecated. The solution is to downgrade ghostscript to or below 9.20 version. The following are the methods that I have tried to downgrade ghostscript without any success.

Downgrading ghostscript from apt or aptitute

I have tried to downgrade the ghostrict using the following command.

sudo aptitude install ghostscript=9.18~dfsg~0-0ubuntu2

Or by using

sudo apt install ghostscript=9.18~dfsg~0-0ubuntu2

I am getting the following output

Unable to find a version "9.18~dfsg~0-0ubuntu2" for the package "ghostscript"

or

E: Version '9.18~dfsg~0-0ubuntu2' for 'ghostscript' was not found

I have tried some other version, like 9.20 of ghost script. Nothing worked.

Installing from ghostscript website:

I have downloaded the ghostscript from the ghostscript website, and installed using the following command

sudo ./configure
sudo make
sudo make install

It seems the installation is done, but if I am running the command

ghostscript  --version

It is showing the version as 9.22.

All the online solution that I am able to find is pointing towards the downgrading the ghostscript. But I don't know how to do it in Ubuntu 18.04.

Any solution?

After upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04 from Ubuntu 17.10, I am unable to view some encapsulated postscript images (EPS) that use Arial font.

I can view some images with with Arial font, but not all. I'm not sure what the pattern is. For ones that I cannot view, I get weird random characters and boxes when I view them with ghostview (gv).

I have installed the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package. In fact, I was trying to insert Arial fonts into graphs generated by R according to these instructions. For a few days, I thought I had this wrong but others were able to see the Arial fonts inserted by my system... So, my system can insert Arial font into images, but it cannot view some of them.

If I take the EPS files that I cannot view and then convert them to pdf using ps2pdf, I am able to view the PDF file using okular.

Lastly, as expected, if I go into the menu and run the "Font Management" program, then Arial and Arial Black both appear in that list.

Would someone have an idea of what I'm missing? It feels like there is something specific to ghostview (or ghostscript) but I don't know what it is.

I want to open a .PS (postscript file) having produced it from a .csh script running a series of GMT commands preferably using ghostview. I am trying:

gv plot.ps

This however opens ghostview but not my plot. Instead I just get the spinning wheel. The plot itself can however be opened through the file viewer and is fully functional.

But this also does not work for me.
