I have a directory with these files on an Ubuntu 16.04 server:

How can access.log.1 have "0" hardlinks ?
How can I delete access.log.1 ? (rm access.log.1 gives me a No such file or directory error) ...

I made a hard linked file in terminal by command: ln somefile somefile_h and used it for fun. Now I faced a question that how can I delete the link between these two files and use it separately? Anybody know?

I recently upgraded to ubuntu 19.4. I used to ctrl+shift drag and drop files at desktop, in order to create shortcuts. At 19.4 some very useful functionalities are removed, I hope for good reason. You can still right-click/Create Link, or use the ln command.

The problem is that when a link is at desktop, I cannot double-click to open, nor right-click/open. Right-click/open with an other application works. Also, after right-click/Show In Files, which opens nautilus, you can just double-click to open.

Another thing, MS office files have the same behavior. Namely, I can double-click to open with Libre office, through nautilus, but when at desktop they only open with right-click/Open with an other application.

Any suggestions on how to double-click to open file-links at desktop?

Edit: The problem is resolved at Ubuntu 20.04.

I have a folder symlink to core files and a folder with my improvements like this:

• core/ -> /some/distant/root/directory/core/
  • script_a.py
  • special/script_b.py
  • special/script_c.py
• core-improvements/
  • special/script_b.py

What I want to do is to create third directory called improved-core/ (using bash script), where there is going to be the contents of core-improvements/ and recursively linked contents of core/ (I mean /some/distant/root/directory/core/):

• improved-core/
  • script_a.py -> /some/distant/root/directory/core/script_a.py
  • special/script_b.py (from core-improvements/)
  • special/script_c.py -> /some/distant/root/directory/core/special/script_c.py

If I create it by hand using symlink to script_a.py, script_a.py calls script_b.py from the /some/distant/root/directory/core/special/ directory, not the one in improved-core/special/ directory.

So I suppose the hard links are needed here?

So far I created the following bash script, that works nicely for me, but it creates the symlinks instead of hardlinks:

cp -r core-improvements/ improved-core/ &&
cp -LnrsT core/ improved-core/

Then I tried to create hard links instead of symlinks by switching -LnrsT to -LnrlT, but I get the following errors:

cp: cannot create hard link 'improved-core/script_a.py' to '/some/distant/root/directory/core/script_a.py': Operation not permitted

I'm now completely lost how to solve the issue.

In the terminal, I see a broken link which is named .steampath, I didn't remove /home/user/.steam/sdk32/steam, but it is gone.

Why is the .steampath there?

Should I remove it?
