I updated to Ubuntu 18.04 a few weeks ago with little to no problems until now. After an update I installed and a reboot, my sidebar (Ubuntu dock) shows on the secondary screen, which is my Laptop, while my HDMI monitor is saved as the primary and has the top bar with time, battery and so on.
How can I get the sidebar back to my primary screen?
the HDMI port of my lenovo ideapad 500s with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is not working.
I also executed the xrandr command, but only the primary monitor is detected.
How can I solve my problem?
How can I check that HDMI is not broken?

After upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04, my laptop has been unable to detect/use an external monitor attached via HDMI. Even when plugged in, the "detect displays" button within the default settings app doesn't do anything.

My main concern is the final line: HDMI-1-1 disconnected. There is a monitor plugged in and ready for use, and nothing I do seems to cause it to be detected.
I have an nvidia graphics card, and before the update I was using proprietary drivers. When the external display problem first arose, my initial attempt was to switch back to the open source Xorg drivers. However, upon reboot, Ubuntu displayed my driver settings as using a "manually installed driver", and won't let me change it:

I have my PC hooked up to speakers and a monitor. In addition, it is hooked up to my Vizio 37' LCD Television. When I was on Windows 7, I could choose to output sound via HDMI. I have the choice in Ubuntu but no sound is outputted. Any Ideas? I don't know how to get system specs on Ubuntu so if you need them please tell me how to get them.

At each reboot, PulseAudio sets a sink (in my case, "HDMI Audio Output") as the default.
So, at each reboot, I don't hear any sound, and need to reconfigure the default sink each time to "Analog Output".
How do I remove/disable a specific sink such as HDMI, or set a default sink that overrides the existing sink?
