Questions[imap](ubuntu)

Upgraded my server to 20.04. Now I can't get IMAP working through dovecot. I get:

Aug  1 23:25:53 defaria dovecot: imap-login: Error: Failed to initialize SSL server context: Can't load SSL certificate: error:140AB18F:SSL routines:SSL_CTX_use_certificate:ee key too small: user=<>, rip=184.182.63.133, lip=208.113.131.137, session=<iKgXGN+rCIC4tj+F>

I found many solutions to this problem but none seem to work. I've generated and re-generated server keys, signing certificates, and the like and configured dovecot to look at them yet all I get is this cryptic error message. I had this all configured nicely before and just updating from 18.04 -> 20.04 broke this.

How can I fix this? Step by step... How to I supposed generate a cert and a key and properly configure them into dovecot so that imap works again?

Funny thing is I can drive a session through telnet to imap and I can log in an access messages. But when I try to do the same with my mail client (thunderbird) I get the above error written to /var/log/mail.log

I have a very specific problem with Kmail. I cannot login to one of my imap mail accounts. 3x other imap mail accounts are working perfectly but not that one. I first thought it might be the mail account, but when I tried it on a fresh Kubuntu vm installation it worked also with that mail account.

So I thought it's most likely because of some wrong configuration. Unfortunately I didn't find a way to completely purge my Kmail, Kontact and Akonadi configuration and databases. All my attempts failed so far.

I have already tried the following:

1. removing:

rm -r ~/.config/akonadi*

rm -r ~/.local/share/akonadi*

apt purge --auto-remove akonadi-server

2. stopping some services with:

akonadiconsole

I tried to remove some of the services (like "local folders"). This didn't help either.

When I start "Kontact -> Kmail -> Settings -> Configure KMail" I still see the old Identities. So I guess not all the data (configuration or database) is removed. How do I completely remove all the configuration and databases and do a fresh Kontact reinstallation.

All in all my system is working quite well so I would like to avoid a complete Kubuntu reinstallation.

I love mutt, and the mutt version shipped with Ubuntu is awesome (it even has a patched version), the only caveat I've found so far it's that I had not been able to manage several imap accounts at the same time.

Currently my mutt setup looks like this:

Which means that a password.gpg file is decrypted on the fly (where my email passwords live) use it to set some vars and deleted, also a default profile is sourced, it looks like this:

Using this, I'm only able to use the account configured in the default profile.., I've heard that folder hooks can be used but I've no idea how to use them, and I'm also not sure if that's what I'm looking for, I'd like to just be able to source different profiles depending which email I'd like to read.., Any suggestion method is welcome.., I'd prefer a setup who don't rely on external programs who aren't part of a default Ubuntu installation.

I have set up postfix and am now attempting to set up dovecot. I did apt-get install dovecot-common I have changed dovcot.conf to include the following

protocols = imap imaps

And I now get this error when restarting dovcot

Error: mail_executable: Can't use /usr/lib/dovecot/imap: No such file or directory Fatal: Invalid configuration in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf

Did I install the wrong package, is there another package I need, or am I missing something else ?

Is there an indicator applet that tells me when I've received an email through any IMAP service? If so, where can I get it?
