Questions[libinput](ubuntu)

Coming mostly from Fedora and Archlinux I used to have the latest libinput available in a reasonable time. Currently, on ubuntu 18.04 I do not see how can I have the latest libinput e.g. 1.12 at the time of writing on my machine. Is there a ppa or has anyone tried to install it from source without messing up the whole system?

I do not mind to compile it but I am not well educated in testing it and making sure it is working in conjunction with other packages properly. Having ThinkPad TrackPoint I kinda feel having the latest libinput is crucial!

I upgraded from Ubuntu 17.10 to 18.04 and realized tap to click is not reliable anymore. Approximately 40% of taps simply does nothing. Did you notice similar issues? Is it possible to fix this? (I use lenovo l450).

I can't seem to figure out how to disable the "tap dragging"-feature in Ubuntu 18.04's libinput. By disabling "tap dragging" I mean that I want to disable the dragging-functionality when using tap without actually disabling "Tap-to-click". This way when I want to drag something, I'd have to actually click on the touchpad. While it could be a handy feature for some, I don't really need it and it keeps triggering by accident. If it's any help, I am on Macbook Pro, some late-2013 or early-2014 version.

I've tried to search around for an answer, and checked libinput's manual to figure out the correct configuration. What I found was this:

Option "TappingDrag" "bool"

Enables or disables drag during tapping behavior ("tap-and-drag"). When enabled, a tap followed by a finger held down causes a single button down only, all motions of that finger thus translate into dragging motion. Tap-and-drag requires option Tapping to be enabled.

I tried to set this option in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf:

Reboot and tap dragging is still there. I also tried to add the same TappingDrag-option to the Touchscreen- and Tablet-sections in the config file with no luck. What am I doing wrong?

There is a problem with my laptop — jumping cursor. I think the hardware is the source of the problem. Maybe toucpad is just very inaccurate when getting finger coordinates and touching events.

On Ubuntu 14.04 I just set vertical and horizontal hysteresis and high and low finger pressure to make touchpad feel smooth and nice. When I installed 18.04 I found that I can't adjust my touchpad any more (except a few options that are not too helpful in my case).

So, can anybody of you, guys, help me with getting back that beautiful synaptics driver?

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 and the trackpoint shows an erratic behaviour. When moving the cursor in one direction, it first moves in some direction and then moves the right way.

It is a strange behaviour, as though there is some kind of momentum (inertia) "stuck" in the trackpoint that is released when I start moving again, after some time at rest.

The issue only happens with the trackpoint, and also only when both moves are dont with the trackpoint. (that is, if I move with the mouse (or touchpad), and then with the trackpoint, no problem.)

It was working fine with UBUNTU 17.10.
