Questions[lsb-release](ubuntu)

I tried updating my computer to Ubuntu 20.10, however it seems to have failed.

What I did:

sudo do-release-upgrade

This seemed to have worked, it ran through and the computer restarted with a gorilla welcoming me as new background image. However lsb_release -a tells me I'm still on 20.04:

I don't know in what state my system currently is... The sources all have groovy packets, the background image changed, but the OS clearly still is 20.04.

Would be glad for some help on this...

I recently upgraded a 18.04 release to 20.04 (early, I know), and wiped away my manually installed 'hplip' package (3.16.11) and installed the official package from the release (3.20.3+dgfsg0-2). All seemed to be well until I started getting messages to update my driver. Making sure I had nothing else to print today, I followed the instructions only to have the 'hp-plugin' command fail to download the plugin with the following backtrace...

Downloading the plugin program manually and trying to install it that way yielded the same result. What's going on here? It doesn't appear that the lsb_release module is missing, and running /usr/bin/lsb_release -a works fine and doesn't return any errors.

Running the hp-plugin command from the command line prints the stack twice, and the first iteration has a few more complaints...

I have no problem writing files as a regular user in /var/crash, so I'm not sure where the problem is here.

I'd mentioned that running lsb_release -a worked fine from the command line, but neglected to provide the output of that...

That's the correct path, too.

UPDATE: I managed to get this to work, but this isn't really an "answer" or even really a "solution". I figured I'd see if the python debugger would tell me anything new so I ran hp-plugin from that, with the command pdb3 /usr/share/hplip/plugin.py -i -g, and, uh, it just plain worked. It still doesn't work without the debugger, but at least I was able to get my printer working again. I still cannot tell you what's wrong (and there's still something wrong here), but maybe more data will help.

I am running Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS and I was originally trying to run a installation for a program I've downloaded for Ubuntu.

When I run the program I am told that I need to have Linux Standard Base 3.1 installed and that I lack 3 modules in my system:

core-3.1-noarch
core-3.1-amd64
desktop-3.1-amd64

The Terminal tells me I can install the modules by running this comandline in my Terminal: apt-get install lsb-desktop-amd64

When I run the following command line in my terminal (sudo apt-get install lsb-desktop-amd64) I get the response that E: can not locate the package lsb-desktop-amd64.

What do I do? Please help if you have any clues!

N.B. I am new to Ubuntu so any detailed descriptions would be appreciated :-)

When I used the command lsb_release, System threw an error that "No lsb modules are available". So what are they and why to install them to get my system info(through command lsb_release)?

I was reading about the Linux Standard Base and was wondering if the structure used in Ubuntu is the same that is suggested in the LSB. I know some distros do not follow or do some changes to the LSB, so I also want to know if Ubuntu has some changes, and what changes these are.
