In the process of setting up LUKS encryption on my Ubuntu partition, I came across the --type luks2 option in the cryptsetup man pages. From what I've read, there don't appear to be any reasons not to use LUKS2, but cryptsetup still uses LUKS1 by default.
Any reason I shouldn't use LUKS2?

A few months ago I set full disk encryption during installation of Ubuntu 17.10. Now, I've decided to upgrade. The upgrade ran to the end without any problems. However, after reboot I am not able to log into my encrypted disk.
Where can be the problem? I am 100% sure I press the "right keys" on the keyboard, but technically I don't know what I am writing because of "*" characters and maybe after upgrade my keyboard layout changed. I use some characters which might be somewhere else on the keyboard. What language is default after upgrade?
By the way, I've already tried Caps-lock, but still no luck.
Help will be really appreciated. I am not a fan of installing my system and all backups over and over again.
When a LUKS encrypted partition pops up the unlock window it gives 3 options for how to remember the password. The "Remember password until you logout" is always ticked by default. Is there a way to make "Forget password immediately" the default?
Enter a passphrase to unlock the volume:
[ ] Forget password immediately
[x] Remember password until you logout
[ ] Remember forever
I have a luks setup with encrypted partition. And I don't want everyone on my computer to see that I have such partition. Unfortunately it shows up in the nautilus "devices" panel as "Encrypted partition".
Is there a way to prevent it from showing there? I managed to setup authentication with usb key and I don't want the encrypted partition show in the panel.
I installed Ubuntu 11.10 with the alternate CD and encrypted the whole system (except boot) with the encrypted LVM. Update 2020: Encrypted LVM can be selected at the Installation type step of the Ubuntu install, click on Advanced features and choose Use LVM and Encrypt ...
Everything works great as before, but I would like to change the password of the encrypted LVM. I tried to follow the Tips and Tricks of this article, but it does not work. After typing:
sudo cryptsetup luksDump /dev/sda5
It says: "Device /dev/sd5 doesn't exist or access denied." I thought the encrypted partition is /dev/sda5. Any help how to change the password?
