Questions[metapackages](ubuntu)

I have realized that edubuntu is no longer available for recent Ubuntus, and that the projects has been somehow replaced by ubuntued. Ubuntued seems to provide the following bundle of packages (in form of meta-packages):

• ubuntued-meta-preschool
• ubuntued-meta-primary
• ubuntued-meta-secondary
• ubuntued-meta-tertiary

As ubuntued seems to be based on Ubuntu, I assume to find and install these packages on my Ubuntu 20.04 all I need to do, instead of installing ex-novo ubuntued, is to add their repositories. But which are those?

Alternatively, are there available "just" some curated meta-packages for the "standard" Ubuntu?

If I attempt to uninstall a metapackage, apt does not actually remove the metapackage's dependencies, only the "wrapper" itself. Even when running apt autoremove, these subpackages are not listed. I find it confusing that autoremove removes dependencies for most normal packages, but not many metapackages. Why is this?

The package hierarchy for Ubuntu kernel images looks like this:

linux-generic --> linux-image-generic --> linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic.

Both linux-generic and linux-image-generic are metapackages. I understand the purpose of having one kernel metapackage (to handle upgrades and multiple kernel versions), but what is the point in the second level? It seems that linux-generic only depends on linux-image-generic, so surely it is redundant?

I prefer using Synaptic to Software Center. So I decide to remove the software-center package, but ubuntu-desktop needs to be removed as well. A warning is shown, saying ubuntu-desktop is needed to ensure proper updates.

To which extent doesubuntu-desktop effect on updates?

Let's say I removed ubuntu-desktop then my Ubuntu would be treated as server mode. So does that means I'll get updates geared toward server i.e. I'll get packages that unnecessary for my desktop?

I'm also interested in its variants, like kubuntu-desktop. It appears to include GNOME (or KDE) and a bunch of other things. But it's quite large - is there a breakdown of what is included in ubuntu-desktop and exactly what those items are/do?
