I recently created a RAM /tmp by adding this to /etc/fstab:

tmpfs /tmp tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime   0    0

Everything works fine, and in theory the system runs faster now, but at boot time /var/log/syslog gets:

… tmp.mount: Directory /tmp to mount over is not empty, mounting anyway.

This situation seems inevitable, as there is never an opportunity to remove files from the filesystem version of /tmp.

The wasted space is trivial, but as a matter of interest, is there any easy way to clean out the junk hidden under the /tmp mountpoint?

I have a rather unusual scenario. There is a ntfs-harddrive in my computer which I would like to mount, which isn't difficult on its own.

But there is an .img-file on said harddrive which I would like to mount at /usr.

Because this is an important system directory, it needs to be mounted very early on in the boot process.

An entry in the fstab - even in the right order - doesn't seem to fix this issue.

Systemd can do mounting as far as I know. What "RequiredBy"-Targets would I need to specify?

As per this article, I am able to get nautilus integration with google drive and can manually copy files into google drive via the GUI, however I would like to be able to write a small shell script to do backups periodically via cron. I cannot seem to find where this is actually mounted?

Via nautilus I see it at google-drive://[email protected]/ however am a bit confused how this is actually connected/mounted so nautilus can see it and where I can cp files to?

I couldn't find an example anywhere of what I'm trying to accomplish.

Below is what my hard drive looks like right now. I want to either:

1. Combine the unallocated space at the beginning of the drive with my kubuntu install on sda3
2. Or at least make the unallocated space available to use as extra storage for my kubuntu OS

I'm afraid that if I resize sda3 to take up the unallocated space, it will screw up my linux mount point, resulting in frustrating problems. Perhaps I just need to reassign the mount point after resizing?

I would also settle for just being able to use that unallocated space to store documents and other files.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

If I mount a Windows share using the "Places>Connect to Server..." option where is it mounted and is it always mounted at the same place?

I need to know the path so I can access it from the Terminal.
