Questions[oem](ubuntu)

I need to install Lubuntu 20.04 on an old machine that I intend to give away to someone who needs it, maybe a charity. For this purpose, I want to make use of the OEM install.

When booting Ubuntu 20.04 from a Live USB, it presents several options on the boot page, including "OEM install (for manufacturers)". This allows me to install Ubuntu, tailor it (e.g. install updates), and then "Prepare for shipping to end user".

However, it's different for Lubuntu. It presents the same options as Ubuntu on the boot page (see the screenshot), but when I select "OEM install (for manufacturers)", it simply boots to a normal Lubuntu as if I'd selected the first option, "Start Lubuntu".

How do I get the OEM installation to work on Lubuntu, please?

Because of a tragic accident the sources.list on my XPS 13 9380 with Bionic 18.04.03 has been rm -r ...if you know what I mean.

Everything's in place and working but I don't remember (and can not find it anywhere) the name of the OEM repository that was in 'Software & Updates' in the 'Other Software' tab/list. It was there, I saw it a couple of times but didn't care to write it down...

Can anybody with a similar configuration do me a favor, look it up and post the name of it here? Thanks in advance.

I understand from reading Kernel/OEMKernel that the linux-oem kernel package is supposed to be a more up-to-date kernel package, that includes additional hardware compatibility tweaks for supported devices on top of the standard kernel (linux-generic?). I'm currently running Ubuntu 19.04 and I note that in addition, the package repositories also contain a linux-oem-osp1 metapackage.

Also, the version number of the kernel associated with the linux-oem package appears to suggest it is older than the kernel for linux-generic, which seems contrary to the description in the linked documentation above.

For Ubuntu Desktop 19.04, as of 2019-10-19, the versions appear as follows:

• linux-generic - 5.0.0.32.33
• linux-oem - 4.15.0.1056.60
• linux-oem-osp1 - 5.0.0.1024.27

So, my questions are:

1. What's the difference between linux-oem and linux-oem-osp1?
2. How are both of these packages versioned (in particular, why does linux-oem appear to be based on an older kernel than linux-generic)?

Is Dell pre-installed Ubuntu the same as the general release? Or does the Dell pre-installed version have special Dell drivers etc?

I bought a Dell XPS 9730 with 16.04 which I replaced with 18.04. It is working fine (except suspend-on-close doesn't really suspend but that seems to be a known problem). I am just wondering if I need to look out for a Dell-special 18.04 when Dell finally start shipping it, or do they just ship the standard version of Ubuntu? (The XPS 13 is one of Dell's "Canonical approved" machines.)

My friend just bought a netbook with Xubuntu preinstalled and the user was created right in store without giving her a root password. Neither was it an admin user. Was it oem-config's fault or store stаff's?
