I have recently installed KDE 5 (kde-plasma-desktop) on Ubuntu 20.04, and as part of the installation, it asked me to switch the login screen manager to sddm.

When sddm starts (either on boot, or after logging out) it blocks the screen with a large on-screen keyboard (the rest of the screen is black), and I cannot get rid of the keyboard without clicking the "hide keyboard" 'key' with the mouse, after which the sddm login screen appears. Although I can understand that there might be accessibility reasons for this, I can see no way to switch this off (I am the only user of this computer), so it is rather annoying.

Is there a way to prevent this on-screen keyboard from appearing unrequested, or, alternatively, would KDE actually work quite happily with gdm3 as the login screen manager (or another manager, such as lightdm) instead?

Well, the title says it. I have a Lenovo yoga 500, recently updated to 20.04. When I was on 19.10, the keyboard used to show automatically when I touch a textbox. However, now it won't open, unless I do it manually via the Universal Access menu. I'll be happy If someone can help me.

This keyboard is super broken and pushes/pulls my windows off the screen every time it appears, which is every time I'm in a text input box. There has to be a way to disable this system-breaking feature.

Setting on-screen kbd to off in Accessibility Options did nothing.

I want to type guillemets (angle quotes, «») in Ubuntu when using

1. Russian keyboard mapping
2. English keyboard mapping

Is it possible (preferably without typing numeric codes)?

There is a discussion here, but it does not mention Linux.

In 16.04 the Onboard on-screen keyboard was available by default, but it looks like it was dropped (because of Gnome integration problems?).

Question 1: Can anyone confirm was onboard replaced by caribou?

Having done a fresh install of 18.04, looking in Synaptic it seems I have neither onboard nor caribou installed and switching on Screen Keyboard in Universal Access does nothing.

Question 2: Is this normal?

Question 3: Given I only use it occasionally when using unfamiliar keyboards (e.g. Greek), which will be less problematic?

I’m also using Budgie desktop, though the base install is the vanilla 18.04 with Gnome.
