Questions[orientation](ubuntu)

Using Ubuntu 20.04 and Gnome Session Flashback, I got accustomed to the title bar icons being on the left. I've found that I prefer the 'close' button to be closest and within reach for quick access, then the 'minimize' button where the 'maximize' button is furthest away; being that by double clicking title bar toggles maximize anyways.

I've tried

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout 'appmenu:maximize,minimize,close'

Which results in the orientation of the title bar buttons switched back over to the right. "Gnome Tweak Tool" still shows it on the left.

Any help, much appreciated.

Update: so far the best solution I found is to add xrandr -o normal to ~.xinitrc.

Wonder why Ubuntu doesn't do this by default, and when I installed it before, I xrander'd before installing and it always did it automatically from there on, so I guess it built that setting into the system.

I've tried most of the solutions I've found so far still to no avail. I have a 29" widescreen Dell monitor running Ubuntu 18.04.4. First I went into display settings and attempted to switch to portrait mode, it logged me out, I logged back in, nothing changed. I tried landscape flipped and it worked just fine.

Next, I tried using various xrandr commands (see below)

xrandr commands

xrandr --output HDMI-1 --rotate right
xrandr -o right

If needed I can get any output log, I just don't know which one's you all may need to see. I think the weirdest part of the problem is that landscape works in both ways, but portrait doesn't work in either direction. Thanks in advance for any help :)

I encounter what appears like bad anti-aliasing or something similar, in the built in PDF viewer and in browsers alike, when switching to portrait mode. All texts just appear oddly fuzzy. Is there a more integrated way of fixing this up so that whenever you change monitor orientation, fonts appear clearly?

I have seen solutions (or should I say partial solutions) mentioned via this question, but would like to be able to switch the monitor orientation now and then depending on the task at hand, without running a multitude of setup commands every time.

I assume this requires integration with the setup screen where display orientation is controlled (Settings → Devices → Displays) in the default Settings app.

I know this might be more like a missing feature request than something that can be done right now without forking the source, but just in case ...

So I reinstalled in my tablet Ubuntu 18.04 again, but this time it was upside down, so I ran xrandr to correct the screen but it not only changed the screen orientation but also the mouse, if I click with the mouse on the right top corner, it assumes that I’m clicking in the lower left corner.
