I am using Ubuntu 19.10 and Nautilus ("Files") for file management. I am accustomed to file sizes reported in multiple of 1024. However, Nautilus displays files size in multiple of 1000.

For, example, a file with size of 367,165,440 bytes is displayed as having size 367.2 MB in Nautilus. However, I want Nautilus to display the size as 350.2 MB (= 367,165,440 ÷ 1024 ÷ 1024). Is there a hidden option to change the "Units Policy" from 1000 to 1024 in Nautilus?

Is there a way to reset all the system policies to their factory defaults without reinstalling ubuntu?

In fact, my problem is that it asks for my password literally for everything I try to do, even for wifi scans. It also asks for my passwords like ~15 times when I log in for something related to color profiles.

BTW I'm logged in as a sudo user (admin).

I don't know if it matters but I just got out of a login loop by reinstalling ligthdm. It wasn't doing this before.

I've really dug into Google and AskUbuntu this week, but I wasn't able to find a satisfactory answer to this issue I'm facing...

I've created a user with ADMIN permissions on my Ubuntu 18.04 using the available GUI from GNOME. Every time I access that interface, to be able to create a new user using that screen, I have first to click on UNLOCK button at the top of the screen, close to the X (close window) button. This procedure works very well when I'm logged onto console, locally.

But when I try to perform the exact same procedure when connected to my Ubuntu using a xRDP Session, I'm not able to click on that button. When I'm connected remotely, the UNLOCK button at the top of the screen is greyed out, and a message is displayed when I hover the cursor over the button: "System policy prevents changes."

What policy do I have to change on my Ubuntu installation in order to have the same behavior, at that screen, no matter if I'm logged at Console or remotely connected thru xRDP?

I know that it is a "bad" idea, I know that it is not secure, I know. I searched the net for an answer and all I saw was whining that it's not good. But I like using Linux because it lets me make the system I want and like to use. The end of intro.

I try to change password:

user:~% passwd
Changing password for user.
(current) UNIX password:
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
You must choose a longer password

If I try sudo passwd user then I can set any password I want so I don't need password complexity checks for passwd on my system.

After googling I've found that there should be PAM module pam_cracklib that tests password for complexity and it can be configured. But my PAM password settings doesn't include pam_cracklib:

% cat /etc/pam.d/passwd | grep '^[^#]'
@include common-password
% cat /etc/pam.d/common-password | grep '^[^#]'
password    [success=1 default=ignore]  pam_unix.so obscure sha512
password    requisite           pam_deny.so
password    required            pam_permit.so
password    optional    pam_gnome_keyring.so

I guess that pam_unix makes this test... Oops... Guys, the moment I finished to write this sentence I've got an enlightenment and typed man pam_unix in terminal where I've found needed options for pam_unix module.

I just removed option obscure and added minlen=1 and now I'm happy. So now I have this line in /etc/pam.d/common-password:

password    [success=1 default=ignore]  pam_unix.so minlen=1 sha512

and I can set any password.

I decided to keep this post for people who might need this solution also.
