Questions[router](ubuntu)

I have read 4-5 articles about it they all tell almost same steps to reset a password of my router. They tend to start with an instruction along the following lines at which I'm stuck already:

Open a browser and enter the IP-Address mentioned on the back of the router. save the new password.

Now when I enter 192.168.0.1 in my browser It says the site can not be reached. I also tried it with http://192.168.0.1 but no luck it says the same thing

Question: Does anyone know what is the problem? Why can't I change the password of my WiFi? Is this an Ubuntu-specific problem but I don't think so I think it is browser-specific or IP-specific problem The problem is either with the IP address or the browser, more chances of an IP-specific problem.

I am using Google Chrome browser on Ubuntu 16.04.

Ubuntu 18.04. I have been given a requirement to use Ubuntu as a simple router.

The Ubuntu box has 2 interfaces - ens33 DHCP, ens38 192.168.10.1/24. 33 is outside, 38 is inside for my purposes. There are a couple of networks behind this box - 192.168.10.x and 192.168.20.x. From any of these networks, I can ping both the interfaces on the ubuntu box. I cannot ping out past the external interface (33).

I have edited /etc/sysctl.conf to allow ipv4 forwarding - net.ipv4.ip_forward=1.

I have added a route to show gateway to other network 192.168.20.x via 38.

Not looking to nat, just route.

Anyone see what I'm missing? Let me know if more information is needed.

I previously had Xubuntu 16.04 installed, and it did recognize the hostnames set by my router (Tomato).

For example, I have a computer with the name mate on the network with a static IP of 192.168.2.202, and previously I could do this:

$ host mate                                                               
mate has address 192.168.2.202

But now I get this:

$ host mate
Host mate not found: 2(SERVFAIL)

This time around I did a minimal desktop install, so I wonder if there is a certain package I am missing.

Using dig shows that the router does correctly report the hostname.

But if I don't specifically mention the router's DNS IP, I don't find it.

So it seems that even though it is listed in /var/run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf it is not being used. How do I fix this?

I dont have much experience on networking or Linux, but I'm trying to ssh into an Ubuntu virtual machine from outside my home network. The Ubuntu virtual machine (VirtualBox) is running on a Debian desktop. I did some research and found I had to forward port 22 from the router to the virtual machine.

• I changed the network setting on the VM to bridge.
• I'm forwarding the port to the VM.
• I checked (http://www.yougetsignal.com/) to show the port as open.

But when I try to connect it is still not working. ssh username@ -- connection refused

Is there anything I have to do inside the virtual machine to allow incoming connections? Or forward any port?

Is there anything I'm doing wrong, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and I own a Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router with a USB port built into it. Naturally, the router came with instructions on how to mount and view this drive with both Windows and Mac, but nothing about Linux. I have an WD Elements 1 TB external HDD that I would like to plug into the router and share across my home network. However, when I plug it in, absolutely nothing happens on my desktop.

I checked on two different machines and nothing seems to indicate that the drive has been mounted (or is even seen at all) on either machine. I am fully aware that it may not be possible to do this with a Linux system, but I was hoping someone might have a suggestion.
