Questions[serial-port](ubuntu)

I have connected to my Ubuntu box using its serial port on windows(using putty connection is working fine.)

According to the question https://serverfault.com/questions/892892/how-to-use-ssh-over-serial-without-using-pppd-or-how-to-transfer-tcp-over-ser, it appears I should be able to SSH into the machine over a serial port.

What packages are needed or alternatively how do I set this up?

I have Ubuntu 18.04 LTS installed.

I installed Arduino IDE v1.8.5 as a snap with

snap install arduino-mhall119

I have added my user to dial-out group and rebooted:

sudo usermod -a -G dialout $USER

$ groups 
username adm dialout cdrom sudo dip plugdev lpadmin sambashare

I connected my Arduino Nano to the laptop, it is detected on port /dev/ttyUSB0 (ch341-uart).

$ ls /dev/ttyUSB0 -al
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 0 авг 13 11:59 /dev/ttyUSB0

I tried to upload the simpliest Blink sketch and get the following errors in the terminal:

$ arduino-mhall119.arduino 


avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "/dev/ttyUSB0": Permission denied  
Problem uploading to board.  See http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/Troubleshooting#upload for suggestions.**

Also I have installed arduino 1.8.5 with umake - it can access serial port in usual way.

Note: we already have similar question here, but the solution was to use package from umake, not fix for the Snap.

So my question is: How to make Arduino (Snap) access serial port /dev/ttyUSB0 (or /dev/ttyACM0)?

Update: connecting serial-port to the snap fails with the following message

$ snap connect arduino-mhall119:serial-port 
error: snap "core" has no "serial-port" interface slots

Current interfaces are:

Changing permissions of serial port to 777 with sudo chmod 777 /dev/ttyUSB0 does not help.

The following do not work too (because of syntax errors):

$ sudo snap connect arduino-mhall119:arduino
error: snap "arduino-mhall119" has no plug named "arduino"

$ snap connect arduino-mhall119:/dev/ttyUSB0
error: snap "arduino-mhall119" has no plug named "/dev/ttyUSB0"

$ snap connect arduino-mhall119
error: cannot resolve connection, plug snap name is empty

Information about YAML-manifest:

I am new to Ubuntu (And I love it). I want to burn a code to my Arduino Uno. When uploading the code, there's an error message saying, Serial Port COM1 not fount found. Did you select the correct one from tools -> serial port menu?. Now, visiting the tools, I can't select serial port because it is disabled. I am attaching a screen-shot of how it looks. I have done something similar in windows. How to find the serial port on Ubuntu?

I'm using PuTTY on Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) to connect to a serial port. I need to copy text from a PuTTY window to another window (for example, gedit).

I can copy by selecting text with the mouse and paste it by mouse middle click. But it does not work when I paste from another window.

I haven't succeeded to fix this issue, but I've switched to the Ubuntu-native application GtkTerm which can copy-paste as usual from the Ubuntu terminal.

I had Windows XP on this box and it failed. Thinking it was corrupted OS I tried to reinstall, and it failed. But then I tried to install Ubuntu, and I could not run it from the USB or from the HD.

Did the mem test and found out one of my 512MB sticks (had 2) failed. I removed the bad one and was able to install Ubuntu but it was sluggish.

I was trying to quickly setup my packet radio for Hurricane Sandy. Downloaded the Serial Port Terminal and was able to get some use but the system kept locking up. So Installed Xubuntu next to it, planning on running out the next day to get RAM for the box. Put Xubuntu on and now I am getting the following error with serial port terminal.:

Cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Permission denied

I would like to be able to use serial port terminal, or equivalent with Xubuntu so I can use my kpc3 packet terminal, connect to the com port on the back of my computer.

Any ideas?
