Questions[smb](ubuntu)

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, GNOME version 3.36.3 and I've mistakenly added two different links to the same server but I haven't been able to remove the other duplicate. Basically I struggled to link my NAS and tried a few recommended commands in terminal and also tried the Connect to Server entry in the window and one of them worked twice and I can't figure out how to undo them.

Here's the commands that I think got them there:

87  sudo apt install nemo
88  nemo smb://remus.local     
90  nemo smb://REMUS.local/home

I tried sudo apt remove nemo to no avail, both locations remain.

In the image under Networks, I'm trying to remove one of the two REMUS (File Sharing) locations. One other tidbit of information is that they go away when I turn off my wired connection if that is useful but both show back up once turned on again.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I ran sudo find / -name '*REMUS*' and sudo find / -name '*remus*' and they gave me the following results:

I removed those files but it didn't do anything for me. I'm going to start some research on removal of smb and afp servers.

Update Oct 17 10:34

I now have removed one of the two network locations but have no idea how. As stated before I deleted those files but then I removed nfs-common and nemo, ie sudo apt remove nfs-common and sudo apt remove nemo. Then I logged out and logged back out and one was gone.

From a problem standpoint this is resolved but from a knowledge standpoint it is still very much open. I have no idea what action did it because it didn't change until after I logged out and back in. I'd like for this to remain open if someone has some insight on removal of smb or afp-servers because I'm sure I will deal with again in the future.

I have 3 locations in file managers　previously in 17.10.

After upgrading to 18.04, they are not working anymore,

error: Unhandled error message: Failed to mount Windows share: Connection timed out

Then I tried to manually mount them:

sudo mount.cifs //****/**** /mnt/share -o username=***, domain=***,vers=1.0

Error: mount error(22): Invalid argument Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

Then I tried to check tail -f /var/log/kern.log, it shows:CIFS VFS: Malformed UNC in devname.

How do I solve it?

I'm having a hard time mount a SMB2 share from my synology to ubuntu server 16.04.

mount.cifs //NAMEOFNAS.domainname.local/Backup /mnt/NAS/ -U USERNAME

results in following error:

mount error(95): Operation not supported

So checking the network share with smbclient results in another error:

 smbclient //NAMEOFNAS.domainname.local/Backup -U username

protocol negotiation failed: NT_STATUS_INVALID_NETWORK_RESPONSE

When doing the same but with a share on Windows server, I have no problem whatsoever. Is there something I have to configure in Synology NAS (i noticed it's configured to only use SMB2)?

I have implemented a FreeNAS solution and setup SMB sharing. I have also setup regular snapshots. I was pleased to find that Windows was able to see these snapshots in it's "Previous Versions" tab:

From this tab, I can restore versions of files for as many revisions as the server has. Great! But I'm having a devil of a time finding this functionality in Ubuntu land.

How do I restore previous revisions of files as stored on a remote SMB share, analogously to the Windows "Previous Versions" tab?

(I'm currently using Ubuntu 16.04, if that helps guide your response.)

Looking for a simple way to do this from the command line.

List samba shares and the users who can access each of them.

List samba shares and the users currently connected to them.

List samba shares and every connection (log, including user) that has been established to each of them.

Any ideas? Anything you use that's currently available that will give me the bits I need to put this together?
