I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad e580 with Ubuntu 18.04

I tried fingerprint-gui but it says "no devices found!".

lsusb command results this:

I suspect my device is Bus 001 Device 004: ID 06cb:00a2 Synaptics, Inc.

I tried a few online solutions, but I'm not able to find proper driver support for my system.

I found this link for Lenovo Thinkpad L390, it also has the same fingerprint device and it is certified by the ubuntu, given all hardware support.

As I understand the driver support is available for Synaptics, Inc. 06cb:00a2, but I'm not able to find it.

Please help me in figuring this out.

I upgraded from Ubuntu 17.10 to 18.04 and realized tap to click is not reliable anymore. Approximately 40% of taps simply does nothing. Did you notice similar issues? Is it possible to fix this? (I use lenovo l450).

Edit: I use xorg session.

There is a problem with my laptop — jumping cursor. I think the hardware is the source of the problem. Maybe toucpad is just very inaccurate when getting finger coordinates and touching events.

On Ubuntu 14.04 I just set vertical and horizontal hysteresis and high and low finger pressure to make touchpad feel smooth and nice. When I installed 18.04 I found that I can't adjust my touchpad any more (except a few options that are not too helpful in my case).

So, can anybody of you, guys, help me with getting back that beautiful synaptics driver?

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on a MacBook Pro 5.5. I'm just wondering if there is something that takes all the kinks out of the touch-pad. It works good, but it feels sluggish, double tap works about 75% of the time and sometimes while I it somehow selects something on a different page (although I'm not sure if that has to deal with the touch-pad and not weird laptop bugs for a new LTS)

If there are any programs, apps, commands aside from the built in system preferences > mouse and track-pad > touch-pad menu that allow someone to "optimize" touch-pad potential.

it used to be that tapping two fingers on the touchpad send a middle mouse click. Now it does a right click and three fingers now are the middle click. I really can't understand the change and think it is a bug or badly copied from Apple or something. The reasoning escapes me totally. I use middle click to open links in a new tab in the browser all day and I rarely use right click (and I have a right mouse button below the touchpad, doh) Tapping three fingers on my tiny EeePC touchpad is next to impossible so I want the old behavior. I found:

synclient TapButtons2=2
synclient TapButtons3=3

but that did not work on 10.10

Does anyone know how to restore sane behavior?
