Have a new Thinkpad. T14 gen 1. With intel i5 processor. Laptop works very nice with Ubuntu.

Now I also installed a wwan module . The whitelisted Fibocom L860-GL. I am dual booting with windows and there the module is working. Had to do nothing special. Was plug and play

But in Ubuntu I can't get it to work. There is no wwan option in settings. And looking at the logs it seems Ubuntu does not detect it. I am running Ubuntu 20.10.

Any idea how I can get this to work?

I'm currently working with a Dell Gateway 5000 and Ubuntu Server 18.

When I enter nmcli device or ifconfig, the SIM interface (WWAN) doesn't appear. It shows other ports, such as wired Ethernet. Also, it doesn't even show when the enp1s0 interface is connected (although I do have Internet connection).

Don't know if it's necessary to up the interfaces, installing drivers or something else, and if so, How can I do it?

I tested with Ubuntu Desktop and the WWAN appears AOK.

I inserted a sim card in the sim card slot of my laptop and was expecting the mobile broadband option to appear on the system menu, but it doesn't. I have a Fibocom L860 and WWAN is also enabled via bios so I'm thinking that it should work. As far as I know, Fibocom L860 should be supported in Ubuntu.

I checked by running mmcli -L on the terminal and it says that there were no modems found. I also tried to run sudo modem-manager.mmcli -L, but I keep getting error: couldn't get bus: Could not connect: Permission denied. I tried installing a modem manager gui, but it's still not able to recognize my sim card.

I tried solving my problem using this solution but there's no CD/DVD drive option appearing, so I couldn't proceed with it.

I am not sure why this problem is happening. Is there a way to check if the problem is with the sim card, the sim card slot, or anything else?

Edit: I switched the OS to Windows to check if it was a hardware problem, but my sim card was easily recognized and I was able to use it to access the internet.

Switching back to Ubuntu, I entered nm-connection-editor on the terminal and added a mobile broadband connection for my sim card. I also tried running mobile broadband by entering sudo service mobile-broadband-connection start, but I still cannot access the Internet, and mobile broadband option still isn't appearing in the system menu either.

What could be causing this problem?

How do I establish and IP connection to the WWAN of a Sierra Wireless MC7354?

I have a system with a Sierra Wireless MC7354 modem running Ubuntu 18.04.

ModemManager can see and control the modem. 

$ mmcli --modem 0

returns lots of great information. (That's how I know the modem is an MC7354.)

Shows that the modem is connected to the internet (?).

How do I establish a connection on Ubuntu to use this interface?

I have a new gen 6 X1 carbon with a 4G connection. But, unfortunately, I could not install it in Ubuntu 18.04. I appreciate if anybody can help to install Fibocom L850-GL.

PS: I want to use the 4G network in both Windows and Linux environments. Solution to work the 4G modem on Ubuntu only is not an option for me.
