Questions[4g](ubuntu)

I'm a new comer to Linux. I'm going to install Lubuntu (which is the best for my PC specs). Now the problem is how do I connect to internet.

I don’t have a WiFi connection. I connect to internet by my dongle (a Huawei dongle and it is customized by MOBILY 4G).

It works fine with Windows because the it has a .exe file to install the software. But in Linux I can’t install .exe files without something like wine.(As I know)

So what can I do?

Also mention how can I update my drivers. (The transparency effects don’t work.)

When I run ModemManager --debug on the terminal, I get this output.

Running mmcli -L gives me:

/org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/Modem/0 [huawei] E3372

And running mmcli -m 0 gives me this output.

When I try to start modemmanager by sudo /usr/sbin/ModemManager, I get:

ModemManager[9099]: <info> ModemManager (version 1.10.0) starting in system bus...
ModemManager[9099]: <warn> Could not acquire the 'org.freedesktop.ModemManager1' service name
ModemManager[9099]: <info> ModemManager is shut down

I've been trying all the solutions on Google but to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Did an update to Ubuntu 16.04LTS yesterday unfortunately now Ubuntu is giving the messages:

Optus 4G Mobile” contains software intended to be automatically started. Would you like to run it?

and

Oops! There was a problem running this software. Unable to locate program.

Have used terminal to enter as root, navigated to the linux_mbb_install directory i.e. Optus 4G Mobile/linux_mbb_install/ but entering and executing install does not do what is required.

Any suggestions?

I have a new gen 6 X1 carbon with a 4G connection. But, unfortunately, I could not install it in Ubuntu 18.04. I appreciate if anybody can help to install Fibocom L850-GL.

PS: I want to use the 4G network in both Windows and Linux environments. Solution to work the 4G modem on Ubuntu only is not an option for me.

I hit a strange problem discussed in this thread of some modem mailing lis https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/modemmanager-devel/2017-February/003804.html.

Basically when I start up my system in logs I get messages that modem can't be activated because 'No SIM card inserted'. Also, when I'm doing mmcli -L I get

My modem manager is good to go and should work with MBIM.

But if I close the lid and my laptop goes to suspend mode, than I open lid back again everything works as expected. My modem is now: mmcli -L

I can connect to the internet, issue AT commands etc. Another interesting thing is that I've got to close and open the lid, doing # systemctl restart ModemManager doesn't cut it.

Seems like I hit a bug with modemmanager/libqmi/whatever? Do you know what can/should be done in situations like this?
