After installing Ubuntu 19.04, ALT+TAB no longer groups windows under the same application. Instead it cycles through all windows irrespective of which app it belongs to. In Ubuntu 18.10 it worked differently (and better in my opinion) such that ALT+TAB switched between apps, and ALT+| (key above TAB) switched between windows of the same app. How can I achieve this setup in 19.04?

NOTE: ALT+| still cycles through windows of the same app, but I cannot use ALT+TAB first to select the app from the shorter list of apps (compared to the list of windows), so then ALT+TAB loses much of its power if you have many windows open.

I have Ubuntu 18.04 on my laptop and I want to have completely separate workspaces on it.

Now my workspaces are sharing the icons on the dock, and when I click on icons of application that have instance in the the other workspace, it's taking me back to the workspace with the instance. I want it to open new instance in the current work space, and I don't want any indication that the other workspace is running another instance of this application.

How can I achieve that?

What solved my problem:

gsettings set org.gnome.shell.app-switcher current-workspace-only true
gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock isolate-workspaces true

When I have multiple windows of an application opened e.g. Chrome main window and Incognito window, and I press Alt+Tab to switch between them, I see only one Chrome icon. I have to then press down key and then right (or left) to switch to the window I want.

How can I separate all opened windows and just press Tab again while pressing Alt key, like we used to in earlier versions of Ubuntu?

The ALT+TAB window switching menu only appears on my primary (laptop) screen, not the screen that is active. The top-bar, where notifications live, is also not-present on my second monitor. Both these behavior are new since in-place upgrade from 17.10.

Any way I can get back the previous behavior?

I'm playing with ubuntu 12.04, precise pangolin, and there's an issue I can't see how to solve.

If I have three instances of, let's say, Firefox, in the switcher appears a single Firefox icon, I have to wait something like a second for it to open so that I can finally choose the one I'm looking for

I tried with compiz-settings and the unity plugin but couldn't find an option to ungroup Windows.
