I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 and I followed the instructions as described in D-Link DWA172 (ID 2001:3318) not working but upon execution of the "dkms-install" command, it cannot be found, any ideas why that may be? Quite new at this so please bare with me. Log from terminal as described below:

Today I decided to purchase a wireless USB adaptor because my operating system, Kubuntu 18.04, is no longer detecting my wifi card. When I purchased it, I thought it would be the type of Wifi USB adaptor that you simply need to plug and it works right away, but when I unpacked it I unfortunately realized that it would be a little more complex to get it to work.

I was able to find and download the zip file of the driver for Linux (DWA-181_REVA_DRIVERS_v5.8.7.1_LINUX.zip) on the website of D-Link, but they don't provide any guidelines on how to install it.

Would anyone be able to provide some easy to follow steps that would allow me to install the driver?

Do I need to install a driver for a D-Link DGE-530T PCIe card? I plugged in the card (support link) and restarted Ubuntu.

1) Do I really need to install a driver for it or there is native support already?
2) How can I check if the hardware is ready to use?

I have a problem with an external network card D-LINK DWA-171 - model C on Ubuntu 16.04

When trying to compile official drivers downloaded from https://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DWA-171 an error occurs

So I found another solutions http://startusingubuntu.blogspot.com/2014/08/install-driver-for-d-link-dwd-171.html However, after making the whole manual, the external network card still does not work.

I was also interested in the mention in readme attached to the official drivers

Please note that DWA-171C support auto install driver function in Windwos OS,
user should exit Flash disk mode(default) to active adapter mode.

The lsusb command also finds nothing with the name "D-Link".

How can I solve this problem?

I am new to ubuntu so I have no experience with it. I have installed the latest version of ubuntu but now I need to install drivers (I think) for my DWA-140 B1 wifi dongle. From what I've read there is a default driver (rt2800usb) which I think will work. When I look at the D-Link support page there are drivers for it but they haven't been updated since 2010. Should I use the default drivers or the factory drivers? If I use the factory drivers how do you install them? If I use the default drivers how do I configure the drive?
