I have problems with Internet connection with most Ubuntu DEs, except KDE - network managers don't allow me to establish a DSL PPPoE connection.

So I'm thinking to buy a router - conventional, I don't want a WiFi router, to take the task of performing the PPPoE connection away from the desktop.

My Internet cable which goes into my apartment has RJ-45 connector, which I plug in right into Ethernet port of my PC, no other devices being used.

I used to do it by creating DSL connection with 'pppoe' in the service field, typing password and login. Also I could use pppoeconf command for that isn't available anymore for last *buntu releases.

Such issue with DSL ppoeconf is in: *buntu (GNOME3,XFCE,Ubuntu Mate) (except KDE) 16.04/18.04/18.04.1/18.04.2/18.04.3, though it works from live-usb.

I'm having a problem with pppoe connection, the modem is connected directly to the computer(without the router), i use pppoeconf to connect, but when i connect the speed is much slower that it should be, and it drops all the time, it didn't happen when i had the router, or when using windows 10.

In Ubuntu 12.04, how to Lock the Edit in DSL in Network connection. so that nobody can see my internet connection password (Isp password) Or network manager should ask for password everytime when I want to connect to internet.

I have installed Kubuntu 10.10 alongside windows 7. In kubuntu 10.10 i tried to connect to internet using the DSL connection tab in the networkmanger on the taskbar -> manage connection -> DSL. i gave the username, password, ip address(manually) etc. checked the box of "connect automatically". The system connection checkbox was grayed out so i could not do anything to it. Then i clicked apply. But the connection that had just created didn't appear in the available connections. As there was no connection named that i created using DSL tab i could not connect to internet.

I used to connect to internet using the same method in Ubuntu 's networkmanager.

Is this some kind of bug in kde's network manager ? how can i solve it ?

I also have to enter a password to connect. Not the root password, but a password I created for the DSL connection when installing Ubuntu.

So I would like to get rid of the password and connect automatically at startup.
