Using Ubuntu 18 with Gnome, i would like to to connect Thundebird addressbook with ekiga, using a SIP provider for phonecalls.

Ekiga works fine standanlone.

TBDialout (Version 1.8.0pre1, for thunderbird 68.7.0) is configured with a userdefined url with this form:

sip:%NUM%@sip.finotel.com

Pushing the call-Button out of the thunderbird addressbook leads to an error: sip is not a registered protocol or not allowed in this context.

Following the TBDialout-Wiki, i registered SIP protocol https://www.oak-wood.co.uk/faq/content/5/14/en/how-do-i-register-a-url-handler-for-the-sip-protocol-in-gnome-_-ubuntu.html

gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/command '/usr/bin/ekiga -c %s' --type String

I am not shure, whether this is the proper way to register an uri protocol in ubuntu 18/gnome. And i am not shure, wether this is the reason for the error message.

But it nevertheless still runs into the same error message.

Any suggestions would be great ...

How do I install Ekiga on Ubuntu 18.04?

The instructions seem to assume that you already have the software installed.

I have an Asterisk server running Ubuntu 16.04 on VBOX on my local host. Also have two Ekiga clients: one on a different Ubuntu machine (on VBOX) and one on my local host (windows 10).

I just finished configuring Asterisk and at least thought I did well, but when I'm trying to make calls between the two Ekiga Clients it doesn't make them.

Error: "Call from guy to extension '100' has rejected because Extension not found"

altough I DID configured that extension as you can see in the photo: when I run dialplan show 100@phones it shows me the dial plan.

no communication problem between peers and server as server NOTICED when i Started ekiga clients. also when i command

'sip show peers'

I can see the two peers available

extension.conf:

[phones]
exten => 100,1,NoOp(print something)
exten => 100,2,Dial(SIP/Asterisk)
exten => 100,3,Hangup

Maybe the operation number 2 isn't alright because I don't have a SIP provider (internal network)?

When I try to set up Ekiga, I keep getting error messages saying it can't register both my Ekiga account and my diamondcard account, which I use for the SIP account. I'm pretty sure I've got all the info for both accounts entered correctly. Does anybody know what the problem might be? Thank you much.

I'm compiling Ekiga from source. Apparently I have installed all the necessary dependencies because I don't get any errors when running ./configure. There is one feature that I can't seem to enable however. The output from ./configure shows mDNS/DNS-SD support : disabled Is there a missing dependency that I should install to enable this feature?
