I am on a terminal looking ("pre-boot") screen, in a utility/program called Busybox. By pre-boot, I mean that I am not booted into the GUI of an operating system. My computer loaded this utility/program instead of booting into the operating system.
How do I exit Busybox and shut down the computer?

But, I thought that I had removed Opera. I guess I didn't do all of the needed steps. How can I get this error to stop recurring given that I don't want the underlying program?
I am looking for a way to do mass scanning of documents (scan a lot of documents, each consisting of one or more pages) quickly.
Here's some elaboration on what I am talking about (long, can skip this section if you want) I think that the "go to" for this is a $250+ scanner that just scans fast. Steps are:
1) load document
2) press scan button the on the scanner
3) repeat
The documents will keep getting added to a folder on your computer.
I have even seen enhancements to this. For example, first sorting your documents into 2 piles-- single page documents and multipage documents. Next, load all of the single page documents and scan with a setting "each page as a separate PDF" in the scanner software turned on. Even with the sorting step, this should outperform.
So anyway, I am looking for an efficient method, but on more of a budget. Also, would be great if it would work in Linux instead of having to use a Windows virtual machine. The scanner does not have to be a network scanner. I am thinking one of these 2 methods:
1- scanner able to scan documents one after the other while "holding" the destination setting. The destination could be a folder on my computer, a USB thumb drive connected to the printer, or email server that stays all local (I don't know the first thing about an email server & want to keep it simple so maybe not an option).
2- scan a large stack of documents and then divide it up into parts (separate PDFs) using minimal mouse clicks/ commands.
How can I achieve something along these lines?
I am going to reinstall Windows on my computer so that I can flash the UEFI/ BIOS (the computer manufacturer only supplies a .exe file). I would like to efficiently reinstall Ubuntu after that. Can you explain a time efficient way to do that?
Edit: Really, I am looking for the safest way to do this with a reasonable degree of efficiency.
I don't understand why my computer connects to my VPN at startup.
In searching online, I learned in the file /etc/default/openvpn you can edit whether all, some, or no vpn services will launch at startup (by uncomenting/completing these lines):
#AUTOSTART="all"
#AUTOSTART="none"
#AUTOSTART="home office"
However, when all 3 of these are commented out, my computer still connects to the VPN by default. By the way, I have one .conf file in the directory /etc/openvpn.
Are there other settings somewhere that are driving for it to connect at startup?
I have a text file that I would like to have quick access to. I would like it to show in the shortcuts "bar" with my other shortcuts.
In order to do this, I know that I am supposed to create a file ~/.local/share/applications/custom-filemanager.desktop
and put "code" that looks something like this into the file:

However, part of what I wrote there must be wrong because although it creates the "shortcut," nothing happens when I click on the shortcut. I am unsure of what I should put for Type, Exec, and Comment.
I inserted a 700MB blank CD into the optical drive. I then right clicked on an ISO file that is 298MB and selected write to disk. The window that came up showed 438.1 MB free. Why isn't it 700MB? I inserted it into a Windows machine as an "experiment" and Windows showed 702MB.

I am in a directory that has several files in it. As a quicker method than typing it out, I would like to get one of those file names to "type itself" on the command line.
So far, my command is
mv
I would now like to "select" a file name to "populate" onto the command line.
I was in my /etc directory and typed the command
me@mylaptop:/etc$ sudo mv MyFile.conf /openvpn
I thought that would move the file into the directory openvpn which is a subdirectory of the /etc directory. However, that doesn't seem to be what happened. All that I can confirm is that the command got executed.

However, when I type the command sudo pip install s-tui
terminal says sudo: pip: command not found
I understand that there were some programs that used Alphabet's (Google's parent company) API for speech recognition in Ubuntu. But, it seems that you needed to be connected to Alphabet's servers in order to use that. Presently, Alphabet cut off the use of their database.
I did come across one write up that mentioned a couple of programs for Ubuntu. But, they seemed to perform pretty poorly (low accuracy).
I want to know what the outlook is like for speech recognition in Ubuntu. My sense is that it's a tough (expensive, time consuming, and/or academic/ mentally rigorous) technology to develop and so Ubuntu is kind of at the mercy of the existing giants-- Apple, Alphabet, and Nuance (Dragon Dictate's owner).
I would like to remove the pictures, videos, and music shortcuts.

I would like to watch a DVD. However, I have run into difficulties. Here is what I have done so far.

Specifically, here are the steps identified in that web page that I have followed

pressed "ok" or similar to various routine sounding prompts
sudo dpkg-reconfigure libdvd-pkg

Step 1 does not seem to have worked as I don't think VLC media player is on my computer. At least I don't see it when I click on the icon with the 9 dots in the bottom left of my screen (the tool the brings up the list of programs). Also, when I insert the DVD and then I right click the DVD looking icon (the icon that comes up on the desktop) the closest appropriate program that I can find is "video player" but when I select that, that gives an error message.
Next, I followed some instructions on How to play DVDs in Ubuntu 16.04?.
Regarding the first answer listed there, I seem to have already done something similar to the first part of that answer (the first 2 parts of that answer). So, I skipped those steps. I did do the steps related to the region code. Next, I started to try the second answer listed.
I tried this command,

sudo dpkg -i libdvdcss2_1.2.13-0_i386.deb
But, that doesn't seem to have worked. A lot of the response that got generated by terminal, says wget: unable to resolve host address
At the end, terminal says

It doesn't sound like it downloaded much in the end, so I am thinking that the steps in answer 2 have not been working so far.
I am trying to mount a Windows network folder. I have the Windows folder set to share with everyone for the read only format. I believe this lets anyone on the local network access the file.
Next, in terminal:

terminal responds with:

I don't understand why it says this. Of course there is no directory, that's why I am asking to create it.

I have a USB drive which is formatted for the fat 32 file system (I formatted it on a Windows computer). Now I want to perform some operations on it using gparted. However, the USB drive is not showing when I click the drop down in the upper right.

When I was in the parent directory in terminal, I typed the name of a program, Brave (it's a web browser).
The terminal "responded" with a lot of output, and I am unsure of what to make of it all.
I was really just goofing around and didn't think it would do anything. But, it did respond with a bunch of output and then open a browser window. Is there anything in that output that I should do something about?

I would like to use putty to connect to my local Ubuntu 18.04 machine. Is that pointless if I am only going to be using it locally? My interest stems from wanting to be able to edit vim files and use the command line on the local machine. I was thinking that maybe there is a way for the ssh server on my Ubuntu machine to be more secure, given that it's only going to be accessed locally.
One thing that I am unsure about is what port number to use.
