I have asked before and am still trying to find a decent accounting program for Linux/Ubuntu. Not a checkbook program but something for small business accounting. I need to generate year end tax reports and things like a P&L

I have been struggling with Gnucash for years. The program is generally OK but the transactions importer is a nightmare. It adds hours of work to balancing accounts, due to things like mis-categorized transactions, transactions not being imported, and erasing already cleared transactions. And support is difficult to get, the mailing list is only occasionally helpful.

I have searched multiple times and the list of software only reflects Checkbook programs. I am looking for an alternative, not cloud based. If someone has a suggestion of ANY kind, I would appreciate it.

I have performed numerous searches looking for accounting software for Linux (I am running Ubuntu) and haven't found any good solutions. Maybe I am glossing over something?

I have been using GnuCash for years after dropping Moneydance. I don't remember exactly why I stopped using it, probably for reasons similar to my wanting to get away from GnuCash. Plus, it isn't open-source and I didn't want to buy a product that I hadn't been satisfied with in the first place.

The problems I have with GnuCash are the constant errors I have in reconciliation. Every statement is a wrestling match of importing data, matching data, transactions not being imported, account totals changing after a reconciliation, math errors and on and on. Plus, I have tried to find support but there is little to be had; I have tried to get on the mailing list a couple of times with no success.

I am a sole proprietor of a business and own property so I have multiple accounts to handle. I need accounting software mostly for year-end P&L statements for income tax preparation for my accountant.

If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear about them. GnuCash has pretty much worn me out, so I need to find something else.

I am looking for a finance application that is similar to "SPB Finance" for my Pocket PC.

That program is simply money tracking with various graphs for a visual account of where your money is going. I don't need one for business management or anything like that.

I would like to manage my bank accounts in a secure manner on Ubuntu.

I saw several applications in the Software Centre, but I don't know which one to choose. I don't need fancy features like stock options. I just have regular accounts which I want to follow, I don't want complicated stuff.

As bank data are quite sensitive, I would highly prefer an application that does encryption of the data. Though, if you have a really cool app but it does not have this feature, as long as it offers to store the data in one dedicated place, I could do with encrypting that place.

So what tool do you use that could fit my needs?

I plan on switching my parents company to Ubuntu (or K or X, haven't decided yet) and one of the most important things is if there is a Quickens equivalent available for any of them?

Something to manage taxes just as well.
