My /var/log/syslog on my Ubuntu 24.10 is filled with the following geoclue error:

geoclue[3863]: Failed to query location: Query location SOUP error: Not Found

To see the error(s) on your system, do:

grep SOUP /var/log/syslog*

This is because Mozilla Location Service shut down June 12, 2024.

Google has a similar location service, but it requires a Google API and a config file edit.

Is there a way to fix my location service, and get rid of the continuous error message?

I would like my webpages to think that I am almost 500 KMs away from my exact location. I am okay with my IP address being what it was and would also like to not change anything but my latitude and longitude. I am using an Intel laptop(hp bs-145tu) with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. How do I do this?

##EDIT 1: As asked by @Carl H, What I want to do is, my location currently is lat a, long b. and i would like to change it to lat x, long y. i am okay with other things like IP address remaining same. I am trying to access some websites which work only when I am in the one of the city that this website delivers and I would like to set a location to see the food joints near to me, that that service delivers to.

I just updated Ubuntu 20.04 to 20.10, and I'm finding a lot of these geoclue errors in /var/log/syslog...

It appears in /etc/geoclue/geoclue.conf that it's making an inquiry to a Mozilla server with...

Which returns the following error...

And I guess that this is a common error, as everybody uses key=geoclue.

They give instructions in /etc/geoclue/geoclue.conf on how to use a Google server, but it requires its own API Key, and I haven't been able to find out how to get that.

Is there a common/easy way to fix this? Why is this a new error in 20.10?

I have location services enabled, however, when I use an app that requires location access such as gnome-maps or Firefox (with allowed permissions for google maps) it doesn't work. Google maps shows that there was an error while determining location and Gnome Maps shows a completely off location. Also the settings page shows no apps have requested location services.

How do I fix this?

Edit: I am using Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS and I'm not sure when this issue has started occurring. I did not change anything in my system that would affect this.

I use Ubuntu 20.04 and I am working on a web app that requires geolocation, so I need to get my current location from the web browser. I noticed that I could not get my position in Firefox using the JS geolocation api. Location services in the Settings->Privacy menu are enabled but I can see no app using them in the list below the on-off button. I have tried the following to narrow down the possible causes:

• Installed chromium. No result
• Checked https://www.where-am-i.net/ on both browsers to make sure that it was not an HTTPS issue. No result
• Installed Gnome Maps. Location is shown correctly
• Tried Firefox or Chrome on Windows on the same machine. Location is shown correctly

Any ideas on how to solve this?
