I am new to Ubuntu. I was trying to connect my Google Drive account with Ubuntu and saw this related answer. When I try to synchronize gnome with the google account it asks for access to basically everything on my google account.

I saw this related post on Reddit, but I am still concerned.

My questions are: is it secure to give gnome access (read, edit, create, delete) to all my files, emails, calendar, photos, etc? Should I trust gnome?

I'm using Google Suite and I have added my Google drive to Ubuntu online accounts.

I can see my Google drive and its content when I open the File Explorer. I have tried and successfully given all permissions from Google to Ubuntu gnome online accounts.

The problem is that I cannot see or add my shared drives, is there a way to do that?

What options exist for Ubuntu users to get similar functionality to Google File Stream on Windows/Mac? I need two functionalities:

1. All data lives in the Google Drive cloud and is only downloaded when I need it, e.g. when accessing it through the Terminal or Nautilus application?

2. Whenever I add a file/modify an existing file, it must automatically be uploaded back up into the cloud.

I have a lot of files (>1M) which use quite a bit of space (~10Tb) on my Google Drive. So far I have used Google File Stream on Windows to have access to all that data on my laptop (500Gb SSD). I'm currently trying to move to Linux and ran into the problem that I can not find an option with similar features as Google File Stream offers. I have found the following options, none of which seem to do fulfill both requirements:

1. InSync, Looked good, has been busy indexing my files for 4 days now and still is running - Feels like it's getting slower over time. At the moment I can not access files that are in folders, but the folder structure seems to be present.

2. Gnome integration : This seems to just download everything that's in the cloud. Not feasible due to data volume.

3. rClone: Haven't tried, but if I understand correctly I would need to explicitly download and upload every file using the terminal?

4. Overgrive: More a replacement for Google Drive - couldn't access the data that was not explicitly synchronized.

5. google-drive-ocamlfuse: Haven't tried - do I understand correctly that it downloads everything, similar to the Gnome integration?

Note, As there's no tag for google-file stream I have to use the google drive tag.

Following this answer: https://askubuntu.com/a/320333/719469, I added Google to my GNOME accounts but when I click on my Drive account id in Nautilus, it does not show any file and in the bottom right corner it keeps on loading till 5-7 minutes.

I tried adding a new file when the loading process finally stopped, it synced and uploaded perfectly.

But when I navigate to a different directory after a few minutes (not immediately) and again try opening the drive directory, it starts the super slow loading process again

I know this can be overcome be working on a different Nautilus tab or window while keeping the Drive open. But it is really inconvenient to wait so much if I close that tab/window by mistake or reboot my PC.

Please note that I am using Ubuntu 18.04 and have a fast, working internet connection but am still experiencing this. I currently have around 2.5 GB data on my Drive, is it normal to experience a waiting time of 5-7 minutes for each time I open the directory or is there any workaround?

My prefered browser: Chromium My prefered download manager : uget+aria2

When I download a Google Drive folder shared to me, Chromium automatically downloads it by its default download manager. Problem is the size is really huge. So I got to have some resume support.

Link is like https://doc-00-1s-docs.googleusercontent.com/docs/secure/bla bla bla bla.

So when I copy the link to uget, or aria2 in terminal... a ServiceLogin.html file gets downloaded.

I have no luck with wget via terminal as well.

So what could be the easy way?
