Questions[gps](ubuntu)

I have installed OpenCPN in 18.04 and I bought a Glonass BN-808 USB GPS Receiver. It is apparently UBLOX M8030 although I'm not sure what that actually means, but it is supposed to be supported in Linux. However while lsusb can see the receiver at bus 001 device 003 ( which is nothing like the tty or /dev format requested by OpenCPN ), Ubuntu cannot read any data from said receiver. I have followed the instructions in the OpenCPN manual but with no success. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Dave

I ran tail -f /var/log/syslog and got a much larger output than you did, none of which made any sense to me.

I ran apt-get install gpsd-clients earlier but I’m not sure if it loaded correctly, I did see the word “fail” a few times.

I cannot see my Garmin 72h on open CPN.
I have it connected to an USB port.

The Garmin does appear on

Bus 002 Device 013. 

Still, when I go to System Information and check the USB Devices, the Garmin does not appear and in OpenCpn/options/connections/serials/Data port I cannot see the Garmin USB or select anything.

And Opencpn doesn't read the Garmin (which has been successfully mounted with no hassle on a windows computer...).

Any suggestions are highly appreciated and the advisers highly blessed. Thanks.

Dad got a camera with built in GPS. The GPS info is embeded in the EXIF data, I guess. Picasa 3 puts a small "icon" on each of the geotagged photos, but can not do anything with them (as far as I can tell).

Is there any photo manager or mapping tool that can put these pictures on a map and/or let him browse trough the photos based on location?

I have GPS tracks (in gpx format) that I usually use to geotag photos. Is there a simple software to view these tracks (i.e.: not use Google Earth)? A bonus would be simple modification, like deleting waypoints. TangoGPS seems to offer GPS track import only in connection with geotagging for pictures.

Specifically, I have a Garmin Forerunner 305 (a GPS-enabled, hear-rate-monitor for runners). I plug it in to the USB port and it is not recognized by Ubuntu at all. I'd like to be able to have it recognized, so that I can pull the exercise record from the watch. This would allow me to upload it to the Garmin Connect website, or perhaps use a Linux exercise software option. I'd also appreciate suggestions for exercise software to use with the Garmin.
