According to the gthumb help section in Gnome Help it should be possible to change the date a photo was taken (DateTimeOriginal): "To change the file modification times, the comment dates, or the Exif DateTimeOriginal tags of multiple files, select the files in the browser view. Then click the Tools button on the main toolbar, and select Tools ▸ Change Date."
I can't find this option in gThumb version 3.8.0. Is it possible somehow to change the exif date a photo was taken with gThumb?
If I click some folder or Catalog, I want to see all the photos and videos. So the media from the subfolder should be in my Browser View.
Is this possible?
I would like to generate camera raw file thumbnails (Nikon .NEF) in Nautilus with gThumb, without opening the app, and when no additional thumbnailer is installed. Some script or a Terminal command, I guess.
When a folder with pictures is opened in gThumb's folders browser it generates thumbnails in /home/.thumbnails if the thumbnail for that file is not already there. Also, can it be done just by opening the folder with the raw files in Nautilus, as a thumbnailer would do it?
For the moment gnome-raw-thumbnailer and ufraw-batch are buggy for 18.04, gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer generates low-quality thumbnails for raw files, so I'm not using any of them. Thanks!
In Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and before, the gThumb application (version 3.4.3) has a light background in its menus, its browser and its dialogues – like white or light grey. So the gThumb application fits nicely with my light Ubuntu desktop and the other applications.
Now since Ubuntu 17.04 or 17.10, and so also with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS beta, the gThumb application (version 3.6.0 in Ubuntu 18.04) has a dark background for all its menus, its browser and its dialogues – like black or dark grey. This breaks the harmony with my Ubuntu desktop and the other applications which all use light backgrounds, since I use a light Ubuntu theme. (Actually I am using Xubuntu but that's not the point here.)
Is there a way to configure gThumb's background color for menus, browser and dialogues? I didn't find any possibility, also not in dconf Editor.
I am having problems with image quality when reducing images or zooming out in certain applications. It looks almost as if the image is not being smoothed or anti-aliased.
On the left is gthumb/eog (look the same) - on the right is gimp. Left one is clearly broken. It never used to be like that. Those are at 20% zoom.
Eye of Gnome (EoG) and GThumb both suffer from it when resizing to reduce, and when zooming out to reduce, but oddly Gthumb doesn't suffer when generating thumbnails. Shotwell and Gimp are unaffected. Libre Office is affected.
Given this, I wonder if anyone might know which component(s?)/issues are the cause? I'm on a 64-bit precise with NVidia 8800 GTX (nouveau).
EDIT: Additional information. If i use the tools dropdown button in the top toolbar of Gthumb, it reduces images size and retains full quality. If I instead click the paint palette at the top right to enter Edit Mode, and resize from in there, it loses quality. The "high quality" check box makes a difference but not significantly. The zoom also loses quality. I am wondering if perhaps it doesn't have 2 rendering modes and 1 is broken?
EDIT 05May2012: I have since discovered that
(a) The image quality for EoG and Gthumb suffered its regression in Oneiric (Maverick, Natty work fine).
(b) It is not limited to Ubuntu, it also affected Fedora 16.
So I'll take as an accepted answer anyone who can either fix that or advise me how to go bug reporting this. I don't really know which packages to apply it to, or whether it needs to go to Ubuntu or GNOME. Thanks!
