Questions[intel-graphics](ubuntu)

I have recently upgraded Ubuntu 19.10 to latest LTS Ubuntu 20.04. After updating, I get serious artifacts on my screen. Every time I reboot (or log-in), my screen is fuzzy or scrambled (picture attached):

This is temporary. The fuzzy screen goes away when I change the background. But it reappears the moment I reboot or log back in.

I have Intel HD Graphics 520 (Skylake GT2).

The output of lspci -nn |grep -E 'VGA|Display' is:

Update:

On enabling Wayland in Ubuntu 20.04 and logging in to, these artifacts are however cured.

This is okay for now, but I am not sure about Wayland as I have not yet used it before.

Is there a way to correct the graphic issue with normal Ubuntu startup?

I'm running 18.04 LTS and would like to upgrade my i7 Intel HD Graphics Kaby Lake driver.

I found that in general the following sources should be used: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2018q1-intel-graphics-stack-recipe

But: There is no guideline.

• Which of those files presented do I have to download, and how to install them?
• Only the kernel?
• What about the Xserver?

I ran into a problem this week, where I couldn't find a solution to.

Everytime I start Ubuntu, it boots nominally, until it reaches "starting Gnome Display Manager" where the Konsole gets stuck and the screen is going black every few seconds.

I also cannot access any tty by pressing Ctrl + Alt + F1, F2

I found an older question, where they solved the problem by reinstalling a new Nvidia Graphics driver.

I can't try that, because I can't access a shell, and my Ubuntu runs fully on Intel Graphics. (Lenovo Ultrabook)

Can I still use my Ubuntu, or do I have to wipe the partition?

I am new to Ubuntu. I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 and am stuck trying to set up the correct resolution for my LCD display.

The native resolution for the LCD is 1920x1080

here is the output from xrandr:

$ xrandr

Then I create new modeline:

So far so good. Then I create new mode using xrandr:

But for some reason that new mode was created for VGA (VGA1) output instead of LCD output (LVDS1):

$ xrandr

So, if I try to add mode to LVDS1, I get an error:

Adding that new mode to VGA1 works fine, but I don't use that VGA1 output.

As Ubuntu 10.10 seems to neither detect my graphics card (Intel 82852/855GM) automatically nor use the corresponding Intel driver even after manually installing it, I am looking into manually configuring X (shouldn't I?). Where can I find the configuration files I need to edit?
