I have a lot of ogg files of pop music.

Unfortunately the tags are not normalized.

Example: One album has "Tina Turner" as interpreter and the next album has "Turner Tina".

It would be nice to normalize the tags.

I looked ad Picard, but the quick start guide tells me:

You should note - Picard is not built to be a mass single-track tag fixer.

How to mass tag fix on Ubuntu?

I don't want a GUI. I am hoping that this process is automated. There are just too many files. I can't fix tags by hand and per single file.

This should be automated:

1. tool looks at the current tags of one audio file.
2. tool tries to guess the album and title with the help of some internet database
3. tool should normalize the tags if a valid album+title was found in the DB
4. the tool should skip the file if no valid album+title was found and print a warning.

With other words: I don't want to set "Tina Tuner" by script or GUI myself.

I have Ubuntu 18.04

When I edit a music file in mp3 format, I insert an image with easytag. When I play the file, the multimedia player (vlc, rhythmbox, smplayer...) does show me the cover of the file that I inserted previously. However, in nautilus the covers don't appear, in KDE with Dolphin I don't have problems, with Cinnamon and nemo neither, it only happens in nautilus with Gnome Shell. Can someone tell me if I'm missing a file or something or how to fix the problem?

I am trying to get gmediaserver (v0.13.0-8) to serve all of my mp3s. Right now it sees only a portion of them. I noticed that the "file" command produces different results for the working files than the non-working ones. On a working file I get the following result:

$ file 01\ -\ 2112.mp3 
01 - 2112.mp3: Audio file with ID3 version 2.3.0, contains: MPEG ADTS, layer III, v1, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz, JntStereo

on a non-working file I get the following result:

$ file 01\ -\ Prowler.mp3 
01 - Prowler.mp3: Audio file with ID3 version 2.3.0

I loaded the non-working file into audacity and exported it into a test folder, and gmediaserver was able to properly identify it. When I run "file" on the exported file I get the following result:

$ file 01\ -\ Prowler.mp3 
01 - Prowler.mp3: Audio file with ID3 version 2.4.0, extended header, contains: MPEG ADTS, layer III, v1, 320 kbps, 44.1 kHz, JntStereo

Does anyone know what the "contains:..." portion of the data is called and if there is a magic command I can use to add this to an mp3 file?

Is this a red herring. Could it possibly be an issue with the metadata container? If so, how do I display the metadata container version used by the file?

Does the string "extended header" have anything to do with it?

If I can find a magic command to add the right data to the file, I could write a script to do it to all of the ones that are not working. If anyone would like a copy of a non-working file, feel free to PM me and I'll get it to you for testing purposes.

How can I achieve that goal? I tried many players - banshee, rhythmbox, amarok, exaile... none of them displays lyrics that are already stored in the mp3. They always try to fetch lyrics from the internet. Interestingly, banshee supports STORING lyrics into the mp3 but not READING - I find that annoying...

One player though does it properly - gmusicbrowser. But this piece of software has a so confusing user interface - I don't wanna use it.

Any ideas?

I downloaded the Ubuntu Music app for android (running v.2.2) and all was going well... I had no problems uploading a couple albums to my "cloud" and then accessing them in the music app, but suddenly it seems like the app won't read the tags on my files and every new file is classified as "unknown artist" on "unknown album" even though I have double checked that the files were tagged correctly.

Is this a known problem? Is any format of tagging specifically not supported?
