I installed Ubuntu 20.04 some days ago. Most things work very fine.

But if I am connected via LAN, I get the warning again and again that WiFi can't connect.

This does not make sense.

If I have LAN, then I don't need WiFi.

Of course I can disable it by hand, but an automation which works be default would be fine.

What can I do to solve this?

In the past dconf-editor could be used to change the cursor size.

I installed Ubuntu 20.04. I changed the value to 64 rebooted, and still the size of the cursor is unchanged.

High-level use case: Highlight parts in a screenshot

I don't care if gimp or another tool gets used to solve this.

Up to now, I do it like this:

1. Super-key "screen..."
2. choose application "Screenshot"
3. take screenshot
4. save it as foo.png
5. open gimp
6. select pencil
7. set color to red
8. set brush type to pixel
9. set width of brush to 4
10. mark the part
11. overwrite foo.png

Unfortunately, gimp does not remember the settings.

I need to do step 6 to 9 over and over again.

What is the easiest way to take a screenshot and highlight a part?

I would like to delete some images with nautilus.

I increased the size to 200%.

My monitor has a high resolution and the image are too small for me.

I would like to increase the size even more, but it seems to be impossible.

Is there a particular reason why increasing beyond 200% is not possible?

With "Bashism" I mean shell syntax which is only understood by the bash shell and not other shells.

If you write a script which gets executed only in environments where /bin/bash exists, then I think avoiding Bashism is just useless and wasting time, but maybe I am missing something.

What is the benefit of scripting things in a more complicated way, when there is an easier solution if you are allowed to use a feature which is only available in the Bash?

Is there a reason why the tool sed does not have this feature?

I would like to show the screen of my Ubuntu laptop on a Samsung TV.

The TV has a menu entry called "mirror screen".

But up to now I found no way to get it working.

I need a wireless way to us the TV as monitor.

Any hints?

If I take a screenshot, often the next action is to paint on it. Sometimes I paint a circle around something, sometimes I blank parts to anonymize them.

I want to tag all kind of files:

• Directories

The only solution I found was MetaTracker.

But this projects seems to be dead.

How can I solve this desktop issue?

It would be mind blowing super great if you could sync these tags with a server like nextcloud.

I have two monitors and sometimes I start to type into the wrong window.

The window with the focus is highlighted in unity (Ubuntu 16.04) with a gray shadow.

Is there a way to highlight the window with the focus even more?

Searching the next match with gedit makes me crazy.

1. I press Ctrl+F
2. The search input box opens
3. I enter foo
4. There is a match for foo. Nice
5. Up to now everything is sane
6. I want to search the next match (with keyboard, not mouse): How?

For me Enter or ctrl+F (again) would be intuitive.

But both don't work...

Am I the only one being confused here?

I have 70k images in 2k directories on my Ubuntu PC.

I want to upload them to google photo to the unlimited store (called "high quality" with reduced size).

This solution looks too complicated to me.

Is there no simple way to get this done?

PS: I know how to upload all files of a directory by hand (using the web GUI of google photos). But this does not work recursively. This means uploading by hand is not a solution for 70k photos.

PS2: I don't want to lose my directories. Putting all images of one day into on album would mean a massive loss of information for me. Look at the above example. There are two folders for the first of January. Both contain unrelated images.

Background: I want to do it with gedit and not sed/python/.... since the replace needs to be done interactive.

I tried to find the official feature list of new Ubuntu release. Could not find it with my favorite search engine and not in the Ubuntu-wiki.

I want to see if systemd is included. I could find a lot of blog posts about it, but not an official feature list or roadmap.

AFAIK I don't need evolution-calendar-factory. I don't want it to run, since it takes up a lot of RAM Why is it started?

How to stop it starting the next time?

I often type the same words in several applications:

• Editor (emacs, vi)
• Webbrowser
• Shells

It would be great to have an autocomplete of the words I typed during the last week available in all the above applications.

Each of them has a way to improve the typing speed. But something at desktop level would be the best.

Example: "Continuous Integration". I want a fast way to type this word without changing the program which receives the input.

Is there already something like this?
