I'm running, as host, Ubuntu 19.10 with kernel 5.3.0-40-generic. In the guest, Ubuntu 18.04.4 with kernel 5.30.0-40-generic.

When I launch the Android Emulator from Android Studio, the entire guest freezes. I tried 4.15.0-60 on guest, same problem. Tried 4.15.0-1050-oem on host, same problem.

UPDATE:

Problem not related to Android Studio emulator, happens on virt-manager too. Seems totally related to KVM

So the problem is:

running any KVM emulation inside the guest makes the guest freeze

I have a Windows 10 guest running under a Ubuntu 18.04 host with Virt-Manager and KVM. It has NAT connectivity because the host is connected through wi-fi, so I can't access my NAS to share files between guest and host.

I also have installed the Spice Windows Guest Tools, but I can drag-drop only small files like text documents or images and not an entire folder. I tried to share a folder from the host adding a filesystem as squash, but the guest is unable to see it.

How can I share big files between the host and the virtual machine?

I recently installed KVM on Ubuntu 18.04 with requisite tools like virt-manager, libvirt, and qemu.

My problem is that the VMs I spin up are not connected to internet. Some give me an error message saying that my machine is not using DHCP, while other distributions just do not connect at all.

I set it up with the following article: https://linuxconfig.org/install-and-set-up-kvm-on-ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux ...which says that I need to edit /etc/network/interfaces to create a bridge. If you read the comments on that same article, you will find that file is no longer being used and has been replaced with /etc/netplan/*

My current .yaml file in /etc/netplan looks like this:

network:
  version: 2
  renderer: NetworkManager

My network interfaces appear to be enp0s25 , wlp4s0 , and wwp0s20u4 .

How should I change my netplan configuration so that my virtual machines on KVM can have an internet connection?

I use Virtual Machine Manager (virt-manager).

  • Host: Ubuntu 18.04.
  • Guest: Windows.

After first shutdown I can't start it. I get this error message:
