I am afraid of upgrading my Ubuntu because half of the time when I upgrade, I get a broken system that I must reinstall. So I always do it on weekends and very rarely.
I have a Dell XPS 13 9310 and the last two times I tried to upgrade I got a black screen while doing it, and had to reinstall Ubuntu, because it wouldn't boot anymore.
Are there tips so I can try to prevent this from happening again?
If I use a second monitor on Ubuntu 20.04 and if it has the highes resolution (4K), the 1st screen keeps glitching. I found out after many tries that putting it to 175% of fractional scaling then 200% again will fix this issue, however it returns after the screen sleeps
So, I'd like a way to change to 175% and then 200% from command line so I can automate this into a script

Currently on Ubuntu 20.04 both as host and guest, I followed http://ryan.himmelwright.net/post/virtio-3d-vms/ and activated 3D acceleration on video, and OpenGL on dsplay, but on VM launch I get
SPICE GL support is local only for now and incompatible with -spice port/tls-port

Linux firmware is a package distributed alongside the Linux kernel that contains firmware binary blobs necessary for partial or full functionality of certain hardware devices. These binary blobs are usually proprietary because some hardware manufacturers do not release source code necessary to build the firmware itself.
For example, my bluetooth pcie device requires linux-firmware/qca/htbtfw20.tlv. Is this a kernel driver? Why the format .tlv, and why some are .bin? Generally kernel drivers are ELF executables.
Just installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my brand new XPS 13. Bluetooth is active and it wont find anything. There is one time where it found "Audio Device" and "Unknown" but I can't even click.
I tried bluetoothctl with power on, scan on and etc, but it won't find anything.
I don't even know which bluetooth device my Dell uses, because it won't appear on lspci or lsusb:

I'm on 5.10.0-051000rc6-lowlatency because the one that comes with ubuntu 20.04 has problems with sleep and other things.
How do I know which bluetooth device I'm using?
PS: I also have no wifi yet, seems like the driver for Network controller: Qualcomm Device 1101 (rev 01) is not ready yet.
I tried ubuntu 20.10 but I get error on installation, tried many times. But I guess the problem is more kernel related.

I've just installed firefox with
snap install firefox
but I can't open/save anything on the home directory.
I tried
sudo snap connect firefox:home :home
and it didn't work. I click open and it does nothing. Also saving a page does nothing.
Other softwares, like Inkscape, will only run if I launch with root;
snap run inkscape
error: cannot find current revision for snap inkscape: readlink /snap/inkscape/current: permission denied
which is not nice
I use firefox from mozilla.org, not from APT which is old. However, if I place it at /opt, it cannot update itself, because /opt is owned by root.
If I simply place it at /home, then it can update itself but any executable can modify it, which is unsecure.
What would be the ideal way of doing this, without using package managers? (even ones with modern firefox)
I'm running, as host, Ubuntu 19.10 with kernel 5.3.0-40-generic. In the guest, Ubuntu 18.04.4 with kernel 5.30.0-40-generic.
When I launch the Android Emulator from Android Studio, the entire guest freezes. I tried 4.15.0-60 on guest, same problem. Tried 4.15.0-1050-oem on host, same problem.

Problem not related to Android Studio emulator, happens on virt-manager too. Seems totally related to KVM
So the problem is:
running any KVM emulation inside the guest makes the guest freeze

Looks like the problem is in these two acpi devices. The article doesn't say what to do in this case. If the problem was in a PCIe device I could simply unload its module, but what should I do in this case? Does an acpi device have a module? If so, how to find its module? And what hash matches mean?

I usually do

to execute a command after 4h. However, if that command requires sudo, it'll not work.

I'm trying to use Kazam to take videos of the screen. It always records the 1/4 of top left of my screen, no matter what I do. No matter if I select the entire screen, a window or select a piece of the screen to record.
I guess it has to do with scaling. I use scaling in my ubuntu because it's a 4k monitor. Is there a way to overcome this?
Every time I open my notebook lid I have to wait a few seconds for wifi to reconnect. I remember that in Windows it was already connected. I need a way to prevent wifi from disconneting on suspend.
The closest answer I found was https://askubuntu.com/a/961460/613425 but it didn't work. I also tried the iwconfig wlan0 poweroff in the answer but it didn't work even before reboot.

I use virt-manager on Ubuntu 17.10.1 (both host and guest). Key grabbing won't work. That is, I can't do control tab inside the guest machine for example.

I've followed the entire discussion, and at the end they say that this problem is fixed for applications built natively for wayland. I guess virt-manager isn't, because it doesn't work for me.
How to grab keys in virt-manager using wayland?
I've never seen this window when doing ssh over the terminal, but now I'm using a python script that does ssh over the paramiko python module and I'm asked to provide a password (that I don't remember setting) in order to unlock the private key username@hostname. I tried my root password but it won't work.
The entire window says:

An application wants access to the private key
'user@host', but it's locked
What is this password? I've never needed it.

Where are the others?
When I run systemctl list-units I see so many services but I don't know where to locate them. For example, where is my plexmediaserver.service? I need to know because that's where I want to put my other units.
I bought a bluetooth headphone that always works in my Android, but in my Ubuntu when I connect it and try to play any video, be it in youtube or a .mp4 opened locally, it won't play. If I disconnect the bluetooth, it plays. I discovered a ritual that needs to be done in order for the headphone to work:
I first connect the bluetooth, then I move its profile in sound settings from High Fidelity Playback to Headset Head Unit, and I click "Test Sound", play a sound an hear some noises. Then I disconnect the bluetooth and connect it again and change to High Fidelity Playback again and test the sound, now it works and I hear "front, left" when I test the sound. Then everything works fine.
Is there a way to fix it? It's very annoying to do it every time I disconnect from my PC.
UPDATE: even now that I updated to Zetsy it still have this same problem
