After upgrading from 24.04 to 24.10, my portable Samsung T7 (Ext4) no longer automounts when I plug it in to the usb port.

When I plug it in, the name of the drive will appear in files/nautilus, but the eject symbol will not appear and programs cannot access it. When I click on the name of drive it will then mount.

However,if I plug in a thumbdrive (Fat32), it automounts perfectly.

How should I try and fix this?

Edit: I also tried 'Disks' and overrode the normal session setting plus turned on 'automount at start up' for the drive but that didn't work.

In Ubuntu 23.10, a gui program 'firmware-updater' was introduced. Is there a user manual to explain what the various features and buttons do? I am unsure what [Update Checksums] & [Verify Firmware] do and the implications of pressing them.

eg: Does [Verify Firmware] check from an external source whether the firmware is good, or am I declaring that the firmware is good and that the system should accept it?

about 3 days ago I bought a brand new system and did a clean install of 23.04. I did not have secure boot enabled. I then spent the next 3 days installing software to get my system up to a fully running state.

In my gnome 'settings' configuration I found 'Privacy' and then 'device security'. It seemed I failed a lot of tests. Including a tainted kernel ('vboxdrv' was the cause). I removed the tainting program [which is a problem as I need the program (Virtualbox) ] and then tried to fix as many of the failed checks that I could... including turning on 'Secure Boot' in bios.

I set it to 'Windows' & 'standard'.

My question is this... by turning this on, I imagine I get a certain level of protection. But have I locked in a potentially compromised system by doing this? Should I have had secure boot from the very start, or is it ok to turn it on now?

I now pass all of HS1, and some of the others. Am I making too much of this feature?

I'm taking the leap and ditching Windows for my own PC as well as my whole family. But whether Ubuntu 19.10 is compatible with the hardware is now an issue.

So far, I've run the live version on 3 builds and installed on 2 of them. Third one is happening tomorrow.

However, for one family member.. a whole new system needs to be built.

The specs are:

• CPU: i5-9400 [intel doc says linux is supported]
• RAM: 16 GB corsair Vengeance LPX Black [never heard of ram being a problem]
• card reader: Icy Box IB-868-B [shouldn't be a problem I'm guessing]
• SSD: 500GB crucial P1 M.2 [also shouldn't be a problem]
• Bluray: LG 16x sata [I have a very similar model that works fine under 19.10]
• wifi: ASUS PCE-AC55BT [drivers are already in the 19.10 build]
• monitor: ASUS VP248H [I've got an older version of the same and it is fine] camera: Logitech C920 Pro HD [forums seem to indicate it is ok]

But......

• mobo: ASUS S1151 MICROATX TUF z390M- Pro Gaming (no wifi) is what is giving me the grief.. I can't find any info anywhere. Asus advertises Windows 10 compatibility, but that is it.

I can't run a live version because the system has to be ordered and built & then it is too late.

Has anyone successfully installed on this motherboard?
