As the title states I recently purchased an 81X2 IdeaPad Flex 5 14ARE05 with an AMD Ryzen 7 4700U with Radeon Graphics (8) @ 2.000GHz for the CPU and an AMD ATI 04:00.0 Renoir for the GPU. I installed Ubuntu 20.04 and chose to install 3rd party proprietary drivers etc.. I then tried to connect it to an external monitor through HDMI and it did not work. The monitor and HDMI cable are fine, I just used them yesterday and they worked just fine. What information do I need to diagnose the problem, and then how do I fix it? Apologies for not posting more information, I have no idea where to start and all of the answers online were for Nvidia.

Edit: I tried installing Xubuntu without the 3rd party driver option and it still does not work. The menu for displays comes up when i connect and disconnect the HDMI so it must detect something. Regarding the actual technical info, this is what I got from lspci -i:

Epiphany browser just straight up refuses to render sites that it works otherwise perfectly with on other OSes. The sites in question are Discord, where it just freezes up on the login page and won't render the QR code (which I believe is why it doesn't work, though this renders on other OSes) and Reddit, where it just froze. I've run it on Fedora 32 (running the same GTK and GNOME Shell theme) and Artix XFCE (running the same GTK theme as well) and these sites have worked just fine. I even tried the Flatpak, though not the Snap, and got the same results. I tested on both Ubuntu 20.04 and Lubuntu 20.04 and neither worked.

The thing is I have no idea where to even start with debug info. What do I collect to diagnose this? And why only Ubuntu? Is the version on Ubuntu outdated? I'm asking here because I'm fairly sure it's on Ubuntu's end.

I'm running Ubuntu 19.10 on a 2016 Asus E403SA. The touchpad on this thing has never worked - did not when i installed 18.04 back in October 2019 and still does not work even with this upgrade I did about two weeks ago. It also broke on Windows 10 back in around March of 2018, which is when I stopped using the machine for a long time.

I looked through online and I have tried various solutions - i have libinput and synaptics installed (keyboard needs libinput), i don't think ndiswrapper does touchpads, ive tried reinserting kernel modules, i've even tried reinstalling to see if the original installation was bugged and none of the other solutions ive tried helped either. From what I read, this should be working by default. on the asus website, however, there was no driver for Linux - it was windows-only.

According to the Arch Wiki, this should be working by default using the synaptics driver but at this point im pretty sure the touchpad is just plain not supported, the kernel is bugged or the touchpad is physically broken. However i want to try everything before giving up. Is there a way to get this to work? Also, how do I check if its physically broken? It doesn't appear to be.
