I want a way to swap from internal speakers to HDMI for sound output, but only when I connect to a certain device. I want this to happen when I connect to my TV, but not my external monitor (which doesn't have speakers).
I used the Daniel answer to this question to add a script that swaps the sound to HDMI automatically when I plug in the cable. (I wanted to ask this in the question, but I don't have the rep to comment)>
Can I add a rule to this script so that it swaps based on device name?
I'm trying to setup my external harddrive to mount automatically on startup, following Akshit's terminal guide.
I initially used the PARTUUID in `/etc/fastab' instead of the UUID:
UUID=191486e0-6049-46aa-973c-425d317b629a /mnt/nas exfat uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=0022,auto,rw 0 0
This gave me an error when I ran findmnt --verify --verbose at which point I rechecked blkid and noticed that I'd been using the partition ID:
/dev/sdb1: LABEL="My Book" UUID="20C9-C659" TYPE="exfat" PTTYPE="atari" PARTLABEL="My Book" PARTUUID="191486e0-6049-46aa-973c-425d317b629a"
So I've added the actual UUID in fstab, but now I'm not sure if I should be using that or if I should be using the PARTUUID, and why my UUID is so much shorter than other examples that I've seen (especially when a "UUID is guaranteed to be unique. As far as I know, collisions will not happen within the lifetime of the universe").
I'm setting up NextCloud, but I'm having trouble connecting to my web server. Apache seems to be working until I try and connect to the IP in my browser which just times out or get 100% packet loss if I try to ping it.

It's definitely listening on port 80:

... and I've added an ufw exception for ports 80 and 443, but that hasn't made any difference either.

I can't get the SSH connection to stay live when I close the lid of my laptop. I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 on a Dell Latitude E6420 and connect to it from Win10 with PuTTY.
I've already tried turning this off by editing /etc/systemd/logind.conf:
#HandleSuspendKey=ignore
#HandleHibernateKey=ignore
#HandleLidSwitch=ignore
#HandleLidSwitchExternalPower=ignore
#HandleLidSwitchDocked=ignore
(Initially I only changed the #HandleSuspendKey but when that didn't work after service restart I changed the others to see if that would change anything.)
I've also changed /etc/default/acpi-support to `SUSPEND_METHODS="none", but that didn't work.
I've even installed UPower and tried to add IgnoreLid=true, but that hasn't worked either.
This setting can't be turned off in the BIOS.
One thing I noticed is that when I initially setup the server it would disconnect from everything if I shut the lid, includig my router. However, once I edited logind.conf the server remained listed under the "wired devices" section of my router's login page. Could this mean that is has something to do with PuTTY or Windows (I don't have an Linux desktop to test this on right now)?
