I use Ubuntu 20.04 with i3wm. My laptop keeps shutting down randomly. To check if it was a problem with i3 or some program I was starting with i3, I switched to the default gnome environment. But there too, I kept randomly receiving the dialogue box which asks me to confirm if I want to shut down.
How do I troubleshoot this?
I had a problem where ubuntu was restarting automatically after poweroff. I added
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="acpi=noirq quiet splash"
To /etc/default/grub according to this answer. After shutting down, it still rebooted, and now I'm stuck. I've tried long pressing the power key, pressing ctrl+alt+F3, but nothing works. Please help me.

What do I do?
I am using Ubuntu 20.04 with i3. Many terminal applications have an option -n to set their instance name. I want to this so I can control a single terminal window which I have previously named 'asdf' with for_window [instance=asdf]. Is there a way to do this with gnome-terminal?
I am using Ubuntu 20.04 with i3. I have reduced my terminals opacity a bit so the wallpaper is a bit visible through it. Sometimes, seemingly randomly (or at least I haven't figured out what is triggering it) it loses its transparency. The cursor also shows faint traces in its previous position as I type, and when its blinking. This goes away when I restart it, and any new terminal I open parallelly is also fine. Why is this happening and how do I stop it?
I am using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with GNOME. When I go to the top bar and click on the Applications button, the applications menu opens up. However, while taking the mouse to my required application, it often travels over the Places button, which automatically opens the places menu. I do not want this to happen.
How do I configure it so that a menu opens only when I click on it and not when I hover my mouse?
PS: The hover to click problem is only there when another menu on the top bar is already open. If no menus are open, then hovering doesn't do anything and I do have to click to open it.
I have downloaded the stable version- 1.13.0 of youtube-music-desktop-app on Ubuntu 20.04.2
Nothing happens after clicking on the app icon. Trying to open it through terminal as superuser gives the following error:
mkdir: cannot create directory '/run/user/0': Permission denied
Running the command without superuser or sudo gives no error, and it seemingly executes normally, but the app still does not open.
As you can see in the attatched image, the dot which shows that dconf editor is open overlaps the label. This does not happen for the apps in folders like office utilities etc. How do I stop this from happening?
If a solution to shift the dot below the label is not available, can I just turn off the dot? Its quite unnecessary.
I read from various sources that creating swap partitions on SSDs is not recommended. I have an SSD and an HDD, and 4 GB RAM. Is it possible to create the root and home partitions on the SSD, but have the swap partition on the HDD? If is it possible, should I do this?
Im using Ubuntu 20.04. Some time ago, the gnome software app had disappeared, so I reinstalled it using apt-get install gnome-software
Now after a recent update, I'm seeing two software applications, one named 'Software' which was there before, and another named 'Ubuntu Software.' I checked the package list, but I see no new packages.
Some other answers say that the second one is 'ubuntu-software-center' but that is not the case, I checked.
Moreover, I tried uninstalling 'gnome-software', and the old one I installed, i.e. 'Software' goes away, and the new one stays. However, when I right click an application, I no longer have the option to view the details of that application.
I want to get rid of the new 'Ubuntu Software.' But I cannot find its package name. Does anybody know what it is and how do I remove it?
I want to add a shortcut to a file in another directory (where it isn't located). How do I do that? I see no option to do so after right clicking the respective file.
Im running ubuntu on a dell vostro, and I want to configure some trackpad settings. When I run 'xinput --list' I see two touchpad drivers:

The first one is a synaptics driver, and the second one is libinput. How do I find out which one is being used in my system?
