Does Ubuntu Server 18.04 support XFS for the root filesystem? The Ubuntu wiki says

GRUB-Support is in an early stage, therefore using xfs as boot-filesystem can be a bad idea

I plan to use a separate 1GB ext4 partition for /boot. Since all other filesystems are mounted on the root filesystem, will an XFS root affect grub?

I have a remote server running Ubuntu 18.04. When I ran apt upgrade today, I got an error message from grub that original boot device is not found, asking me to select the disk for installing boot loader. As per the suggestion on the prompt, I selected all listed devices. But I still got some error messages when installing the boot loader.

I tried to run grub-emu to verify that the bootloader is installed correctly. I am getting the following screen, with lots of garbage text. What is wrong?

I am connected to the remote server via SSH, from a Mac OSX terminal.

Is it possible to increase animation speed for window transitions in Cosmic Cuttlefish?

Edit: Is it possible to set a maximum duration for the transition effects?

I have installed logstash from the official elasticsearch repository on Ubuntu 14.10. Installation process added the upstart job /etc/init/logstash.conf and init script /etc/init.d/logstash

But the logstash agent does not start automatically on system reboot. But if I run

  initctl emit virtual-filesystems

the agent starts immediately. /var/log/upstart/logstash.log does not contain any entries from boot time.

When I changed virtual-filesystems to filesystem, it started correctly.

There is no logstash.override file. The udev service is running

I have a package that depends on squid 3.2. I want to replace squid 3.2 with source compiled version of squid 3.3 beta (which is not available in repository). When I remove squid 3.2, the depending package is also getting removed.

• How can I mark the squid 3.2 dependency as manually resolved?
• Is that the purpose of the command aptitude umarkauto?
