If I hit the Activities button, all open applications are hidden. There is no way to get the applications to display again. The application I select is started, and shows up on the vertical bar in the left with an orange dot by it.

What magic is needed to bring the applications back?

They are still there. I see them when I go to log out. Logging out is the only option for restoring Gnome.

The same problem happens if I hit Alt-F1 or Super. Shouldn't these toggle?

The only way to get a screen shot it with my phone. Sorry for the quality. You can see on the left that I started gimp.Up to 19.10, when I used "Activities", it would launch the app and then return to my running applications.

I had this problem with 18.04. Adding an entry to /etc/hosts as mentioned in this bug report.

In 18.10, that does not work.

I get an IP assigned via DHCP, but never get the login page.

Searching for the error didn't turn up anything helpful.

My phone connects to the same wifi just fine.

After doing an update today, I can no longer login after a screen lock. I enter my password, the screen goes black and then returns to the login screen. The only way to login again is to reboot.

Among the things I've tried:

apt-get remove gdm3 apt-get install gdm3

Tried swithcing to lightdm apt-get remove lightdm apt-get install lightdm

First lightdm login worked, but then I get an error dialog about the screen settings not working. There was no way to exit the dialog, so I end up re-installing gdb3.

I turned on debugging with gdm3, but I didn't see anything obvious in /var/log/syslog.

This is on a laptop with the following:

Any ideas?

I tried the solutions in tuxguitar doesn't play any sound but they didn't help.

I don't see Timidity as an option of the midi port. I can play midi files through timidity.

How can I debug this further?
