I decided to follow a UNIX tutorial just to understand my Kubuntu a little bit more, in the tutorial's eighth chapter, I am advised to
WARNING: NEVER put commands that run graphical displays (e.g. a web browser) in your .cshrc or .login file.
I immediately searched for information about why shouldn't I ever do this, however, I didn't find anything about it.
Can anybody tell me what is the problem with running graphical displays in my .cshrc or .login files?
I have Kubuntu 16.04, Inkscape 0.92 and TexText 0.4.4.
TexText has worked without any problem for a long time, however, it suddenly stopped working and I am trying to track down the issue. I already reinstalled Inkscape and TexText, still no working.

Earlier I had a problem in which the graphics and some important functions of the system stopped working properly. Now, simple things like the woobly windows effect, or the traslucent effect don't work.
How can this be fixed?
I have a video with text that I am trying to translate into other language, I will not place the translation as subtitles, the idea is to use the same font and place the translated text in the same place as the original text is.
The software that I need is a software that either let me do the previous (i.e. remove the text within the video) or that allows me to convert video frames to images (that I'd be able to edit with GIMP) and backwards (i.e. images to video) AND in both cases the software should allow me to introduce text in any coordinates of the video with any font I desire.
The software should also be able to "remove" any object from a video like Adobe After Effects as shown in this tutorial.
This question is not a duplicate of Ubuntu is there any frame by frame video editor software which can allow to place a picture? as this question asks for a different goal that was solved differently in the link provided.
All right, I have two monitors and suddenly I feel the need to have a video playing (any kind but preferably YouTube videos) in one monitor while selecting what song is going to play next in other monitor:
The main goal is that in the "video monitor" the "search" for the next video doesn't appear at all.
How can I do this?
When I say any kind of video I mean that it would be really cool if that can be done with any website (e.g. Vimeo, YouTube, Metacafe, sockshare <for movies>) or software (VLC or a presentations software {actually I've seen that Windows 8 [or the new Powerpoint, not sure here] has a cool feature where you can make presentations in a video beam and in your computer you can see what slide is next}).
I noticed that in Ubuntu the sound/volume tool gives the chance to change the input volume/level while you speak through the microphone and there is a bar giving you the measure for the volume of your voice.
In Kubuntu, however, I have been unable to find it nor information anywhere about such a thing.
How can I obtain a graph with the input level while adjusting the volume of the input in Kubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Trusty Tahr?
If not sure if this is close to (or even a duplicate of) Why does sudo not add root's PATH with Ubuntu 12.04?, I'm still posting this question because I didn't understand anything from there, if this is a duplicate, please do not flag it as that, just explain it better than that question, or post another answer in the other question.
I installed ISE from Xilinx. I was advised to export the path, which I did by entering

then
echo "export PATH" >> ~/.bashrc
That done, I can run then program by entering ise in a terminal, but if I enter sudo ise it won't work. I'm I forgetting something?.
I have a long time using Ubuntu, probably 3 or 4 years, I've never had the need to "export a path".
Now, I was installing Xilinx ISE 14.7 in Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr LTS following a tutorial, at some point the tutorial advised to create a PATH (I don't even know what it is, but I guess that is like a link or shorcut to launch the program easily).

Running Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr LTS, I am trying to have Okular (version 0.19.3) scrolling when pressing the middle mouse button and moving it in any direction to scroll in that direction.
Currently, when the center button is pressed (clicked), the option (when holding and moving the cursor) that I have is zoom in and out.
After I asked this question I was wondering if there is a way to whether create a script or find a new software that automatically set's a pdf's title tag to the assigned name.
The idea is that after you execute the script or program on the pdf it automatically change the pdf's title tag to be the same as the pdf's name.
If you are hurrying to flag this question as a duplicate of this or this questions, please stop, the answers on those questions do not provide an answer to the question here.
After I asked this question I found that title and file name are pretty much different, so then I tried changing the pdf document's title to whatever I want to?.
I tried with Okular, but it doesn't let me change the title, I also tried GIMP but it just don't seem to have the option. I even tried verifying the document properties with Dolphin and it does not work either. How to change the title then?.

I want to be able to boot any OS (this case: a Live version of Kubuntu) installed on a SD card (not USB).
I have followed the instructions given for a USB. However that won't work properly, the 40_custom GRUB2 entry that I have now is:

The option appears on the GRUB menu but whenever I selected it prompts the regular kubuntu splash screen and won't boot from my SD Card (or the HDD, either).
Whenever creating a document and pressing F1 will produce the document's quick build and will immediately open a new window with the pdf view.
After the upgrade from Ubuntu 14.04 to Ubuntu 14.10 when pressing F1 (even though the shortcut is still created within the settings menu) TeXmaker won't do anything.
I have searched and I believe there is no a question like this one. Whenever my laptop finds updates the Software Updater application comes up as usual however it is always showing the package highlighted in the picture (both with the square and the cursor).
I'm unable to check them, nor update them. Is there a way of updating them or delete them?
I have just realized that compiz doesn't have the option for a bouncing cursor (a cursor that will bounce whenever you access an application, like a busy cursor) as KDE does it.
Is there a way to enable (or get) such a feature?

I do not want to disable apport. I want to find a way to know what is the Problem the system detected and find a way of fix it.

1. Apport won't come up when clicking Report Problem.
2. Cairo-Dock won't start sporadically.
3. Login takes longer than expected.
4. Chrome crashes from time to time.

When taking a screenshot, there is a gray image displayed.
Before upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04 the screenshot was working properly, however, after the upgrading process the screenshot wont work no more. I tried to verify which package was the problem from: gnome-screenshot, I unistalled it and installed back on my laptop, but it wont work anyways.
Every time I install a new Linux kernel, it gets left in the grub_config, making the boot menu longer each time.
I know I can manually search through the installed packages and remove them.
Does Ubuntu provide any easier way to clean them up or keep them from showing in the boot list?
